So people are blaming Ivar? Imo it's more of the old man's fault. What do you expect trying to harm a leader in front of his group. And Ivar doesn't even know that thorfinn could have dealt with the old man on his own. He just protected his leader which makes perfect sense.
Except its the norsemen fault, including Thorfinn, for invading a land that didnt belong to them. That elder was just protecting their kind.
I do think calling them invaders is inaccurate. The Norse are peacefully settling the land and exchanging resources with the Lnu. They are inhabiting a piece of land that is not already occupied (the Lnu seem to mostly stay further inland in the forest). The only issue is that they are cutting down trees that are of some spiritual value to the Lnu, however it seems for most Lnu this is not an issue.
The only reason the elder decided to act so recklessly is because he hallucinated events that will occur several centuries into the future which are unrelated to the Norse settlers of the current time, it's honestly rather stupid, because in his visions he saw things that the norsemen are clearly not capable of creating/ using ("invisible arrows" for example), yet he did not dismiss the vision as nonsense. If he's using some kind of drug to see things, he must've seen other strange things before, things that could not feasibly come to be or are just plain random.
If the Norse expand too far and/ or heavily deforestate the area, or if they attack, then it would be fair to call them invaders. However, as things are now the settlement has been peaceful, and has lead to much more benefit than detriment (from what we can see).
