Additionally, I would have liked more elaboration in the epilogue or bonus content, detailing how life post-resolution unfolded. The story hinted at a possible romantic relationship between other characters, but it never received a follow-up. A simple mention would have satisfied my curiosity, but it seems like the author overlooked that aspect.
I would have appreciated a more cunning and ambitious MC, someone closer to the regal King Jing, who captivates with their actions. The MC doesn't quite stand out in that regard. Despite this, the story remains entertaining, even if it fails to meet my heightened expectations. Ultimately, I can't blame it all on the book since my anticipation might have been too high.
Of course, there might be a few minor issues that others might find bothersome, but considering the book has only 123 chapters, it's understandable. The side characters could have used more development, and the villain's motivation is rather clichéd. However, by the end, I found myself feeling slightly同情那个"dummy" character.
Jiang Suizhou, the protagonist, strategizes carefully to protect Huo Wujiu while avoiding detection from the emperor and his brother, who seek revenge. His actions are logical and well-considered due to his historical background. As the story progresses, the relationship between Jiang Suizhou and Huo Wujiu blossoms, with the latter gradually realizing the affection between them.
However, the reviewer finds the plot less engaging as new characters from Great Liang are introduced, shifting the focus away from the core duo. The climax involving Huo Wujiu's family conflict feels rushed and unsatisfactory. Additionally, the reviewer comments on the eunuch character, which can be either endearing or irritating depending on personal preference.
The novel concludes with a HE ending, featuring Jiang Suizhou as a professor and Huo Wujiu as a college student in modern times. Overall, the review appreciates the heartwarming aspects of the relationship but wishes for more depth in the political intrigue and character development.
Overall, it was a highly entertaining read. However, there were a couple of minor issues. The sexual relationship between the main characters struck me as uncomfortable, especially when it portrayed one character clearly not enjoying it. A healthy connection should involve mutual consent and enjoyment. Additionally, personally, I had hoped for a deeper connection between their story and the beginning, but that wasn't the case, which left me somewhat disappointed.
