    Well, Fay can afford not to train since his power lets him control his body like a puppet string. It might have logical explanation but yeah, I do agree it's a lazy writing.
    And Fay is the worst type of Hero, a passive Hero - The type that got dragged by the plots instead of moving the plots. First, he got dragged into allied kingdom that had no chance to win just because they can only sends him as the representative. Though we can gloss over this cause it was the first arc and served as the hero's 'rude awakening', but in the next arc he got dragged again to another allied kingdom by his brother. And now going into spoiler territory here, but can you guess what's the next arc gonna be? If you guessed: "He got dragged by the merchant cause he owes her a favor" Then congratulation! You are correct.
