The narrative unfolds in 19th century China, amidst the waning power of the Qing Dynasty and a nation teetering on the brink of chaos. It is also set during an imagined period known as "The Era of the Cooking Wars." This was a time when master chefs with diverse culinary styles competed fiercely to hone their skills and claim the title of China's premier chef. In this society, offending a high-ranking chef or trivializing cooking could lead to imprisonment, while impersonating a top chef was tantamount to treason. Chefs battled for respect and influence, but also faced the peril of losing everything.
Following the death of his mother, Pai, who was renowned as the 'Fairy of Cuisine,' Mao embarks on a quest to become a Super Chef and succeed her as Master Chef at their family restaurant. Before assuming his mother's role, however, he journeys across China to learn various culinary techniques, aspiring to achieve legendary status like his mother. Along the way, he encounters loyal friends and formidable rivals eager to challenge him in culinary contests.
