A 12-year-old mischievous traveling companion, his mother is Japanese, making him half-Japanese and half-Chinese. He first encountered Mei Li and Mao when they found him unconscious due to hunger in the forest (in the manga, he bumped into Mao after stealing food from people). At the age of 10, he left his village with a promise to become a Super Chef. However, during his two years of travel, he didn't achieve this goal, so he pretended to be one when he returned to his village (just moments before meeting Mao and Mei Li). His deception was soon uncovered when a cooking official pointed out that his Super Chef badge was fake. Upon discovering that Mao was a genuine Super Chef, he declared himself Mao's apprentice and decided to accompany him on his journey. He frequently teases Mei Li and habitually grabs her breasts, leading to constant retaliation from her. While not a culinary genius, he knows more about cooking than Mei Li and is only somewhat average in his skills. Shirou often finds himself in trouble and also causes issues for the other group members. Eventually, he becomes a chef-in-training at Yang Spring Restaurant.
