ishida toraji

Also known as "Kojirou," Toraji Ishida is a teacher of politics and economics at Muroe High School, where he also serves as the Kendo Club's instructor. Constantly short on cash, he struggles to make ends meet, often finding himself without enough money for food after paying bills and debts. As a result, he frequently relies on handouts from his students. At the start of the series, an old senpai offers him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: if Kojirou can form a female kendo team that beats his senpai's team, he will win a year's supply of sushi. Motivated by this challenge, Kojirou begins to invest more effort into training his team, much to Kirino Chiba's satisfaction. The only person who knows the true reason behind Kojirou's newfound dedication is Yuuji Nakata, who dismisses Kojirou as "pathetic." Kojirou's parents own a convenience store, though it's revealed in one anime episode that they previously ran a sake shop. Despite referring to them as old, Kojirou's parents appear younger than their actual age; his mother, in particular, behaves youthfully, as evidenced by her collection of cute items. Even though Kojirou is perpetually broke, he somehow still owns a car. During his high school years, he was a member of the kendo club and managed to defeat his senpai, Kenzaburou, in a kendo tournament, earning a trophy (though he doesn't actually want it). Initially, Kojirou attributed his victory to luck, but over time, he came to believe that he had won because he was stronger than his senpai.
