Tamaki Kawazoe is a freshman in high school, commonly referred to as "Tama-chan." Despite her prodigious talent in kendo, she views it not as a hobby but more like a household task practiced at home, given that her father runs a kendo dojo. Tamaki declines to join her school's Kendo Club, considering it unnecessary, but temporarily enlists to confront a bully. Her strong sense of justice and fair play, influenced by childhood tokusatsu shows like Blade Braver, makes her detest injustice. She remains an avid fan of anime and tokusatsu despite her age.
Initially shy and unsociable, Tamaki starts to open up after working part-time at a store owned by one of Miyako's acquaintances. This experience helps her overcome her shyness and connect better with her teammates. Both Kirino and Sayako, along with many other girls in the story, find her extremely cute, often styling her hair into ponytails or encouraging her to participate in kendo matches just to see her compete. Yuuji has known her since childhood and calls her "Tama-chan," a nickname she dislikes because it makes her feel childish. Kojirou describes her as the strength of their group.
In a significant moment, Tamaki experiences her first defeat in the Kanto High School Kendo Tournament against Rin, her arch-rival from the Blade Braver series. The loss was partly due to Rin adopting a stance reminiscent of Tamaki's late mother, which momentarily distracted her. In competitions, Tamaki plays the position of General (taisho).
