Brash, self-centered, and loudly obsessed with Matsuya and Ropponmatsu Unit 1, Iwata is generally disliked yet tolerated by his neighbors and colleagues. His habit of making inappropriate remarks to women and his rivalry with Ropponmatsu Unit 2 frequently result in physical confrontations.

In the eighth volume of the manga, Iwata unexpectedly succumbs to colon cancer, but he is quickly brought back to life, receiving an android replica body for his brain courtesy of Shioji. Numerous theories circulate regarding his relationship with Watanabe due to the peculiar bond he exhibits towards his roommate. Conversely, Watanabe harbors a deep-seated hatred for Iwata.
