we do know for sure that Grimjow, Nel and Halibel are alive and will feature heavily in the story at some point
We do? Sure Nel is alive doing...erm...something but when were we shown what happened to Halibel and Grimjow?
I don't think Kubo will bring them up again. And even if he does, it's probably for some worthless "shows up miraculously and saves the day" ploy. Or as some addition to the "army" consisting of countless characters that will have countless and endless fights against even more pointless, countless enemies. Karakura arc part 2 if you will.
And even if he SOMEHOW manages to make them actually part of the plot again I still think throwing aside a bunch of characters, not mentioning them again for ONE-HUNDRED-EIGTHY and counting chapters is pretty fucking bad writing. But that's just me.
Kubo specifically talked about them, namely:
- Halibel is alive and will c ome back at "crucial part" of the story.
- Grimjow was planned to die but due to fan-popularity he will share a comeback with Halibel.
And WHO would mention them? Ichigo had no connection to SS and the only one constantly visiting HM in there was Mayuri. It makes no sense to show them directly, especially since Kubo wants to keep the whole "What mayuri found in HM" a huge mystery (going as far as naming it as important as Ichigo's birth or aizen's backstory).
Also if you do not like "countless pointless fights" then please switch to different genre. Its shounen manga. Of course it will have fights against enemies as main focus point and not hugging characters with peace offerings.
If done right it all works perfectly. FMA(the real fma) did a great job bringing in every character that survived through the manga into the final conflict. And it was glorious.
So far we have yet to have a truly "BIG" showdown in this manga. And everything points to kubo setting that up.
