The main character embodies a typical harem protagonist, persistent and determined to save everyone he cares about. He possesses significant abilities, but he's not invincible – he relies on wit to outmaneuver foes. It's a mix of Japanese isekai (fantasy world穿越) and Korean dungeon themes. If you enjoy stories with similar elements, this might pique your interest, but don't expect too much – there may be unexpected twists, but the predictability can be seen as a positive aspect rather than a flaw.
The chapters are concise, making it easy to catch up quickly. So if you're looking for a shorter read, this could be a suitable choice.
"Your writing seems to cater to a simplistic, idealized view of a character, one that appeals to young readers. The protagonist, portrayed as uniquely special yet dense, doesn't resonate with complexity. The dialogues feel shallow, and the characters lack dimension. If you found enjoyment in this novel, perhaps it's your first, but I urge you to seek out more substantial literature that can enrich your intellect. Reading it was a waste of my time, and I worry it might have dulled my own intelligence – something you should avoid."
Though not identical, it shares similarities with 'Solo Leveling' from Japan, featuring clichés like a younger sister needing financial support due to absent parents, overpowered progression, a "demon tower," dungeon escapes, and a shady adventurer organization. All the familiar character archetypes are present, ticking off the checklist.
I'm curious enough to explore the light novel version, hoping it delves deeper and expands the world-building. At its current paused state, it doesn't stand out as anything extraordinary, and for those who read at a moderate pace, it's a quick read that can be completed within a few hours.
I'm having difficulty crafting a review due to the numerous flaws I encountered in the book. First, the lack of world-building is disappointing. The novel fails to establish a clear context for the [Game Elements, Level System, and Dungeons]. There's minimal information about the world's state, like how it changed after the sudden appearance of dungeons, or the societal norms and laws. The focus on the main character overshadows these crucial aspects, without providing subtle details to immerse us in the world.
Additionally, the title is misleading. The claim of "Not Being Restricted by the Dungeon Rules" is misleading, as the protagonist exploits a loophole rather than truly breaking free from limitations. His growth pattern, referred to as "Accelerated Growth," loses its impact when he aims for the top, and the unpredictable nature of new dungeons hampers his progress.
The "Awakening of My Incompetence Skill" also falls short. While the first two awakenings are reasonable, the third conditional power lacks value, and some skills have inconvenient activation requirements or exorbitant costs, making them appear underpowered.
Lastly, the plot feels overly reliant on clichéd "shounen" tropes, particularly plot armor, which allows the protagonist to overcome challenges with unwarranted ease, often in an unrealistic and cringe-worthy manner. This aspect detracts from the novel's uniqueness.
In summary, while there might have been potential in the title, the execution of the story and character development leave much to be desired. It's difficult to find genuine uniqueness within the book's current framework.
Personally, I appreciate the uniquely Korean setting (contemporary urban dungeon world) and the protagonist, who exhibits a more assertive and proactive nature compared to typical Japanese MCs. The novel also incorporates elements I enjoy from Japanese literature, such as relatable slice-of-life scenes and softer heroine approaches towards the main character, which I feel is a refreshing change from some Korean novels.
Unfortunately, there are a few drawbacks. The main character's behavior can be frustrating, as he often acts like a typical shonen hero, believing himself invincible and risking his life unnecessarily without considering the consequences. He has a financial responsibility towards his sister and sacrifices luxuries due to their financial constraints, yet chooses high-risk battles over safer alternatives.
What's concerning is that the author abruptly alters his character's personality, retroactively explaining his actions. The MC's transformation feels forced, with no clear indication of these traits earlier in the story.
Despite these issues, I still believe the novel is worth giving a chance, especially if it piques your interest. If you're intrigued by the premise, I encourage you to read it.
The MC's uniqueness is undermined when they're revealed to be just another character without their particular constraint, making the narrative feel disconnected from its initial premise. If you're seeking a simple, passable read during boredom, it might be tolerable, but overall, the story lacks depth and excitement.
