Zorua is a slate gray, fox-like Pokémon with red and black accents. It has triangular ears with dark insides and a large tuft of fur tipped with red on its head. Its eyes are greenish-blue with red eyelids, and there are circular, red markings above the eyes that look like eyebrows. Zorua's muzzle is short and tapered, showing two small fangs when its mouth opens. This Pokémon has a ruff of black fur around its neck and four short limbs ending in red. Its tail is short and bushy. Zorua can change its appearance, but this transformation is an illusion as it retains its own type and moves.
Known for its timid nature, Zorua developed its illusion abilities to ensure safety. It hides its true form and takes on the appearance of other Pokémon to scare off enemies. Sometimes, it mimics a silent child to search for food or even replaces talkative children. In its movie debut, an inexperienced Zorua might leave its tail visible when taking a human form, reverting back if touched. Zorua is mischievous and enjoys surprising others.
Forms
Zorua has an ancient regional form: Hisuian Zorua. Driven away by humans due to their illusions and unable to survive in the harsh environment of the Hisui region, deceased Zorua souls were reborn with malice towards both humans and Pokémon. Hisuian Zorua’s fur is mostly light gray with red and white accents. Its ears are primarily gray with split cuts and slightly red tips. Its eyes have golden yellow irises and pink eyelids, while its limbs end in black. The tuft of fur on its head, the ruff around its neck, and its tail are all white at the base, fading to red at the tips, giving them a smoother appearance. Unlike Unovan Zorua, Hisuian Zorua has a melancholy expression.
Hisuian Zorua still uses illusions but does so by unleashing spiteful power through its ghostly fur, especially atop its head. This power stems from its resentment. If it meets a lone human or Pokémon, Zorua may appear masked in a horrifying illusion of their likeness. It draws strength from the terror it inflicts. Hisuian Zorua prefers cold areas where it lingers. Like its Unova counterpart, it can mimic other Pokémon to fool anyone for food.
Evolution
Zorua evolves into Zoroark. Hisuian Zorua evolves into Hisuian Zoroark.
