Caterpie is a Pokémon resembling a green caterpillar with a yellow underside and a teardrop-shaped tail. Along its segmented body, there are yellow ring-like markings on the sides that look like eyes, designed to deter predators. The most striking feature of Caterpie is the bright red antenna (osmeterium) on its head, which emits a foul odor to fend off threats. Despite these defensive mechanisms and its natural camouflage among green foliage, Caterpie is frequently targeted by Flying-type Pokémon. Its four small feet have suction cups, allowing it to climb various surfaces effortlessly.
Caterpie is easy to catch and grows rapidly, making it an excellent choice for novice trainers. As it matures, Caterpie sheds its skin multiple times before enveloping itself in a thick silk cocoon. It can also shoot this silk to ensnare opponents, as depicted in the anime. This Pokémon has a voracious appetite, consuming up to a hundred leaves daily, even those larger than itself. According to Pokémon Adventures, its preferred food is the Vermilion flower. Caterpie inhabits temperate forests and jungles.
Evolution
