Roxanne is responsible for the Stone Badge and lives in Rustboro City. She is a specialist in Rock-type Pokémon, as her name suggests, possibly derived from the word "rocks." In Japanese versions, her name means "azalea" but also alludes to the term "throwing stone" (礫, tsubute?).
In the Pokémon Adventures manga, Roxanne serves as both the Gym Leader of Rustboro City and an instructor at the Rustboro Trainer's School. She has featured in "VS. Nosepass" Parts 1 & 2 (Chapters 190 & 191), "VS. Shiftry" (Chapter 222), and "VS. Kyogre & Groudon X" (Chapter 248). In these stories, she either leads the Rustboro Gym—where she adds written tests to the usual battle—or battles Team Aqua and Team Magma alongside other Hoenn Gym Leaders.
In the Pokémon anime, Roxanne is not just a Gym Leader but also teaches at the Pokémon Trainer's School in Rustboro City, sharing knowledge gained as Professor Oak's top student. She instructs young children on Pokémon basics before they are old enough to become trainers. She appears in episodes 291 and 292, titled "Gonna Rule The School!" and "Winner By A Nosepass." While "Gonna Rule The School!" introduces Roxanne briefly, it focuses more on her students; in "Winner By A Nosepass," Pikachu and Ash use the "Iron Tail" move learned earlier, which Pikachu later employs to defeat Roxanne's Nosepass in a battle for the Stone Badge. Additionally, Roxanne admires Brock as the strongest rock-type Gym Leader.
