Togedemaru is a spherical, rodent-like Pokémon. Its front is mostly white, while its back is predominantly gray. It has black eyes, a short pointed snout with a black nose, rounded ears, and circular yellow markings on each cheek. Across its back are 14 fur spikes that look like yellow and brown triangular patterns. These spikes stand upright when the Pokémon is attacking, startled, or agitated. On the back of its head is a tail-like needle. This needle is gray with a yellow tip and resembles a lightning bolt. Additionally, Togedemaru has short arms and legs. When its spines are extended, its cheek marks can sometimes resemble electrical outlets.
Togedemaru uses the needle atop its head to attract and collect electricity. Groups of these Pokémon can be observed with their needles upright, waiting for lightning strikes during storms to supplement their limited electric capacity. Some Trainers exploit this ability in battles by luring opponents into using Electric-type attacks, which Togedemaru then turns against them. When content, this Pokémon rolls around uncontrollably in a ball shape. Togedemaru often competes with Elekid over electricity, resulting in evenly matched confrontations. In Generation VII, Zing Zap was its signature move.
