Birthday: March 3
Shizuka Doumeki is a classmate of Kimihiro Watanuki and considered his rival. He is part of the school's kyūdō club and frequently excels in school competitions. His calm and composed demeanor makes him popular among girls.
Doumeki lives in a shrine that belonged to his late grandfather, who was a priest. During his childhood, his grandfather shared many stories about folklore and Shinto practices. Despite his heritage, Doumeki has almost no ability to see ghosts or spirits, although he can still exorcise them. He can sense spiritual "pressure" and has a vague awareness of their presence. One spirit he did see was the Lady in the Park whom Watanuki often visited.
The Ame-Warashi noted that Doumeki has a pure or refreshing scent. Kohane described Doumeki as 'beautiful' or 'pretty,' likely referring to his spirit or aura, much to Watanuki's bewilderment and annoyance. Doumeki cannot enter Yuuko's Store, with the reason revealed in volume 8. His method of exorcising spirits involves shooting them with an invisible arrow made of pure energy, first shown in volume 2.
Initially, Doumeki could not see the spirits or ghosts that Watanuki could see, such as the oden shop owner and the Ghost Girl haunting a scary home. However, after sharing both his blood and half his eye with Watanuki, he gradually gained the ability to see and experience what Watanuki does.
Doumeki's personality contrasts sharply with Watanuki's. He is cool, calm, and often sarcastic. He rarely speaks unless explaining folklore or requesting impossible bento lunches from Watanuki. His humor is dry and somewhat fatalistic. Doumeki seems to appear everywhere, especially when Watanuki gets a chance to be with Himawari, which annoys Watanuki. He often responds with one-word phrases like "Hn" or "Oh." Despite his aloof exterior, Doumeki is very observant and protective of Watanuki. For instance, in Volume 5, he stood in the rain for hours to ensure Watanuki's safety, and in Volume 6, he helped during the incident with the spirit in the park. In Volume 9, it is revealed through Doumeki's New Year's dream that he resembles his late grandfather Haruka, who knows more about Doumeki's past and bears a striking resemblance to him (though Watanuki notes that Haruka smiles more).
