Kohane is a young medium who, at the age of nine, found herself thrust into the world of television due to her supernatural abilities. Despite her mother's overprotectiveness, Kohane feels that her mother is more interested in her TV career than her well-being. After initially discovering her powers, Kohane helped her mother uncover her father's infidelity, which drastically altered her mother's personality. Her mother then stopped touching Kohane, ceased calling her by name, removed all non-"pure" objects and food, and cut off all social interactions. She became obsessed with getting Kohane on as many TV shows as possible and spent lavishly on extravagant items. This treatment left Kohane with a quiet and lonely disposition, though she tried to remain strong for her mother's sake, blaming herself for everything.
Initially, Kohane could only see spirits, but after receiving one of Sakura's feathers, she gained the power of purification. Later, she gave this power to Yūko as payment for a wish—to be happy. However, Yūko only took the purification ability by removing the feather from within her. Yūko granted her wish by resolving various external issues in her life, such as improving her reputation. Nevertheless, Yūko could not change her relationship with her mother, as true personal transformation can only come from within.
