doumeki haruka

Dōmeki's grandfather was the Shinto priest at the shrine where Dōmeki now resides. Though he passed away some time ago, he is frequently mentioned in Dōmeki's stories. The cause of his death has yet to be revealed. Haruka bears a striking resemblance to Dōmeki but has a more cheerful and outgoing personality. He imparted a wealth of knowledge about folklore, mythology, and shrine practices to Shizuka. His extensive library is now maintained by Dōmeki. As the shrine priest, Haruka possessed the power to exorcise spirits and see them, an ability inherited by Dōmeki (though Dōmeki could not see spirits). Both used chi-infused bows and arrows for exorcisms. When Yūko examined the wards Haruka had created for the library, she praised their high quality, highlighting his expertise and deep understanding of the occult. Haruka makes his first appearance in Volume 9 of the manga during a dream induced by Yumenai's balloons, which originally belonged to him. He serves as a guide to Watanuki much like Yūko does, questioning why Watanuki truly likes Himawari and pointing out that misfortunes have befallen him since meeting her. He also asks why Watanuki finds Shizuka Dōmeki irritating. When Watanuki fell from a school window and entered a near-death dream state, it was Haruka who crossed into this state and brought Watanuki back to consciousness. Watanuki continues to encounter Haruka in his dreams. In chapter 127, it is shown that Haruka can not only enter Watanuki's dreams but also transport him into other people's dreams. He acts as a guide, explaining things and warning of dangers, such as when Kohane's mother splashed Watanuki with hot water. Haruka explains that all dreams are interconnected, making it possible to travel between them—a concept seen in other CLAMP works, notably in X. This ability to traverse dreams and possibly glean information from them is reminiscent of the yumemi from X.
