The Ame-warashi, also known as a rain sprite or rain maker, is a proud and high-ranking spirit with a notably hostile attitude towards humans. This animosity stems from her belief that "humans have no care or regard whatsoever for living nature." She visits Yūko to request Watanuki's assistance in saving someone at a park filled with hydrangeas. In the anime, she is depicted as a protective and loyal friend to the Zashiki-warashi.
Ame-warashi possesses the ability to discern differences in character and potentially special abilities. This is evident from her discomfort around Himawari and the "refreshing" or "pure" scent she senses from Dōmeki. She reappears alongside the Zashiki-warashi to see Watanuki, maintaining her hostility towards him while making a cryptic remark about his true nature.
In the anime, her hair is red, although some CLAMP artwork shows her hair as blue. The concept of the Ame-warashi is derived from a spirit in Japanese folklore.
