Vulpix is a small, four-legged, fox-like Pokémon. It features a reddish-brown coat with a cream-colored underside. Its eyes are brown, and it has large, pointed ears with dark brown interiors and a triangular dark brown nose. The paws are slightly darker than the rest of its fur and have light brown pads. On top of its head are three curled locks of orange fur with bangs, and it has six orange tails with curled tips. Initially, Vulpix is born with just one white tail that splits as it matures. The tails become warmer as it nears evolution.
Vulpix can control fire so precisely that it creates floating flame wisps. These flames are sometimes mistaken for ghosts by humans but are used by Vulpix to help catch prey. Inside its body is an eternal flame. When temperatures rise, Vulpix releases flames from its mouth to prevent overheating. To escape from stronger foes, Vulpix may pretend to be injured. It typically resides in grassy plains.
Forms
Vulpix has a regional variant: Alolan Vulpix.
In the Alola region, Vulpix has adapted to snowy mountain peaks, developing a pure white coat. It has pale blue paws, blue eyes, and dark blue inner ears. Its snout is more pronounced and pointed compared to regular Vulpix. The hair on its head and its six tails are curlier and appear wispy. Alolan Vulpix is thought to have arrived in the region alongside humans but relocated to snowy mountains to avoid other Pokémon. They live in groups called skulks, protected by Ninetales. Alolan Vulpix can exhale air as cold as -58°F (-50°C), capable of freezing anything. Though unsuited for warm climates, its tail can generate ice to lower the surrounding temperature if necessary. An old local name for this Pokémon is "Keokeo," referring to its white fur. Weavile is a natural predator of Alolan Vulpix. They also inhabit the Polar Biome of Blueberry Academy's Terrarium, simulating Alola’s island environment.
