N is a mysterious character who first appeared in the Black and White, also known as the Fifth Generation, Pokémon games. He serves as one of the rival characters to the player, frequently engaging in battles throughout the game. N is an idealistic activist deeply influenced by Team Plasma's philosophy, advocating for the liberation of Pokémon from human control due to the widespread abuse of Pokémon and their powers for battles and other practical purposes. His ultimate vision is to establish separate worlds for both Pokémon and humans.
One of N's unique abilities is his capacity to sense a Pokémon's emotions and thoughts, even hearing their "voice." His connection with Pokémon is profoundly intuitive, often stronger than his relationships with actual people. Additionally, N harbors an obsession with mathematical formulas, fascinated by how they seamlessly integrate to create various phenomena. One of his favorite activities is riding Ferris wheels, purely because he admires how diverse mathematical principles come together to produce the beautifully synchronized circular motion characteristic of these rides.
Later in the story, N reveals himself as the leader, or "King," of Team Plasma at the Nimbasa Amusement Park to White (in the Manga) and to the Player (in the BW Games), aiming to divert White/The Player's attention while some Team Plasma members make their escape. For much of the narrative, N becomes the primary antagonist as Team Plasma progresses towards their objective of freeing all Pokémon from human control.
