Pyukumuku is a marine Pokémon characterized by its oval, black body. It features two small, pink eyes and a white mouth that resembles a star or Daimonji. This unique creature can eject its internal organs through its mouth, which can assume various forms, such as a fist. Along each side of its back are two rows of three pink spikes, with the middle spike being approximately twice as long as the others. Its tail is a fluffy white puff.
Pyukumuku tends to settle in a preferred location and remain there, even returning if moved. Once it has consumed all the food in its chosen spot, it will stay there until it starves. Its body is covered in a viscous substance that allows it to survive on land for up to a week without drying out. Interestingly, this fluid also serves as an effective moisturizer for humans. If someone steps on Pyukumuku, it retaliates by expelling its fist-like organs to strike the offender. It particularly dislikes having its mouth or spikes touched. Tourists often find Pyukumuku unappealing due to its appearance and behavior, frequently stepping on it unintentionally. This situation has created part-time jobs on beaches, where people throw the Pokémon back into the sea. In Alola, locals have already adopted the practice of returning thin Pyukumuku to the ocean so it can find food. Additionally, Pyukumuku shares a symbiotic relationship with Pelipper, which carries it after scooping it from the water.
