Misdreavus is a dark bluish-green, ghost-like Pokémon. Despite lacking visible arms or legs, its lower half features several small appendages resembling a ruffled dress. Around its neck are five round red gems, which it uses to absorb fear and convert it into nourishment. In side series games, when Misdreavus is defeated, its body vanishes, leaving only the gems around its neck behind, suggesting that it retreats into these gems when severely weakened. This Pokémon has long, flowing lilac-tipped "hair" and large, red eyes with yellow sclerae.
Misdreavus resides in caves, being a nocturnal creature that sleeps during the day and spends its nights playing mischievous tricks on people. It enjoys startling humans, often yanking or biting their hair, or sneaking up and emitting cries similar to those of a frightened child. In the animated series, Misdreavus can use its "hair" to grasp objects and other Pokémon, functioning like hands. Flutter Mane bears a resemblance to Misdreavus, leading to theories that it might be a giant Misdreavus reborn as a pterosaur ghost.
