Mimikyu is a diminutive Pokémon almost entirely concealed beneath an old rag. Its small stature makes it one of the shortest Ghost-type Pokémon. Through holes in its disguise, you can see its beady black eyes, and sometimes a shadowy foot or lower body peeks out from under the hem. Occasionally, Mimikyu will extend a black appendage from underneath its rag. The disguise resembles a Pikachu; the cloth is yellow with black-tipped ears, and the face looks like it was drawn with crayons, featuring black eyes, red cheeks, and a squiggly black mouth. The head is hollow and can store objects. Mimikyu also carries a stick shaped like a lightning bolt to serve as a tail for its costume.
When the disguise is damaged, the costume's head droops backward, revealing Mimikyu's deception. Larger tears release shadowy vapors from within. A lonely Pokémon, Mimikyu always wears its disguise. Its true appearance remains unknown. Since sunlight weakens it, the veil is thought to provide protection. Seeing its true form is rumored to cause illness or even death. Consequently, Mimikyu becomes aggressive if anyone tries to look under its rag. Its disguise mimics Pikachu due to the popularity of Pikachu-themed merchandise, hoping to make friends. Sadly, this makes its disguise creepier. Until recently, humans believed Mimikyu was merely a ghost in a cloth.
In Alola, a special Mimikyu serves as the Totem Pokémon for the Thrifty Megamart (Abandoned Site)'s Island trial. Mimikyu has two forms: Disguised Form and Busted Form. When hit by an attack that breaks its neck, Mimikyu transforms into its Busted Form, no longer resembling Pikachu convincingly. Typically, the rag helps Mimikyu avoid attacks. Even with a broken rag, Mimikyu tries to maintain its disguise. If damaged, it spends all night repairing the rag in front of a mirror as if its life depends on it. Repairing the rag is difficult for Mimikyu, causing it much internal distress. It then seeks revenge on whoever damaged it, fearing exposure. Unforgiving, Mimikyu will risk its own life to take down the culprit. It never forgets the person who harmed its rag for as long as it lives.
