Manaphy is a petite, blue, water-type Pokémon featuring stubby legs and elongated, club-like arms that exceed the length of its body. A red gem adorns its chest, just above a yellow dot. Its head, shaped like an onion, sports long blue antennae tipped with small spheres. Manaphy's eyes are notable for their dark blue irises set against yellow sclerae, complemented by two yellow dots resembling eyelashes extending from each eye.
Comprising eighty percent water, Manaphy is highly sensitive to environmental changes, often swimming vast distances to return to its place of origin. It thrives in the deep, cold waters of the ocean floor but occasionally ventures into the coastal regions of Hisui, sometimes trailed by Phione. Endowed with a unique ability at birth, Manaphy can form bonds with any Pokémon. This remarkable Pokémon is often referred to as the "Prince of the Sea." As shown in Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, Manaphy possesses the capability to learn and communicate in human language. Additionally, it has the ability to breed Phione, though the exact nature of their relationship remains a mystery despite their striking similarities and familial connections.
