Slugma is a limbless gastropod Pokémon made entirely of magma. Its body is bright red, gradually fading to a darker shade towards its extremities. It has large, round, yellow eyes with tiny pupils. Slugma's head is oval-shaped, featuring flame-like protrusions extending upwards from its eyes and molten droplets hanging from its upper jaw. Its lower body is irregularly shaped and occasionally releases bubbles.

Slugma’s circulatory system consists solely of magma, which transports essential nutrients and oxygen to its organs. To avoid cooling and hardening, Slugma never sleeps or stops moving. If its body starts to cool down, it becomes fragile and may break apart. Slugma constantly searches for warm places and congregates with others of its kind in mountains and volcanoes. Taking magma baths helps Slugma heal itself. It is thought that Slugma were more commonly seen in ancient times when volcanoes were more active.
