Blood type: A
Ability: Transform trash into trees
Ability Level 2: Undo the opponent's power
Kousuke Ueki is the protagonist of the series. He attends Class 1-C at Hinokuni Junior High School. His ability was bestowed upon him by Kobayashi, also known as Mr. K, who is Ueki's homeroom teacher.
His second-level power allows him to negate an opponent's ability. Due to his given talent, he can wield multiple sacred treasure weapons simultaneously.
Ueki is genuinely kind-hearted and always ready to assist others. He maintains a calm demeanor and remains indifferent to personal outcomes. Often found dozing in class or letting children use him as a target for soccer balls (or even a surfboard), he demonstrates remarkable composure, such as calling the police without panic when confronted by a group of unruly teenagers. His concern for others extends to saving Robert Haydn from falling debris in the Dogura Mansion. Despite being somewhat naive, he uses his powers against non-gifted individuals because he cannot tolerate injustice.
Although he frequently loses his talents and gains seemingly useless ones, he believes in compensating with extra effort.
In reality, Ueki is a heavenly being sent to Earth by his father to participate in the tournament. This celestial status grants him abilities beyond tree creation, though he is still training to master these powers.
A short profile of the main characters in "The Law of Ueki" reveals that Ueki enjoys cleaning up his town as a hobby. In the manga's first volume, he is depicted planting trees in the town park.
While his ability to turn trash into trees may seem weak compared to others, it is uniquely powerful. Other power-users can only transform one item into another, like beads into bombs or water into fire. However, Ueki's power creates a repeatable cycle where parts of the tree can revert to trash, which he can then transform back into trees again.
