His unique ability allows him to transform voices into portraits and make those portraits produce sounds. To activate this power, he must bend his fingers or toes.
Soya is a power user whom Ueki and Mori encounter. He frequently employs deceptive tactics and tricks during fights, such as using a soy sauce bomber. Soya looks after a group of children at a place called the Sun House.
His first King of the Celestial World Candidate, Nero, was a kind heavenly being who did not aspire to become the King of the Celestial World; he merely wanted to assist humans, which he did at the Sun House. Soya offered to be gifted so that Nero could stay longer on Earth. Unfortunately, Nero helped Soya in a fight and was sent to Hell as a result.
Soya then received a new King of the Celestial World Candidate named Zack, whom he despises for turning out to be a jerk and wanting him to join forces with a nasty group of power users. Despite his initial reluctance, Soya agrees to help Ueki when he learns they can save Nero. Although often cowardly and weak, Soya can be a formidable opponent when combining his sneak attacks with his powers.
In one instance, he placed his portraits on Sano's towels and then turned them back into voices to launch a sonic attack on Team Marilyn. Additionally, his ability to use his opponents' voices in conjunction with his tricks makes it easier to deceive his enemies.
At the end of the series, Ai refers to him as the useless member of Team Ueki. However, in the anime, Ai calls him the secret savior because he gave Ueki one last Zai before Ueki disappeared after being hit by Ueki's Kurogane.
