Cubone is a small, bipedal, dinosaur-like Pokémon with a light brown hide covering most of its body, except for its cream-colored belly. It has two small claws on each hand acting as thumbs and one large nail on each foot serving as toes. Cubone features two small spikes on its back and a short tail. The standout feature is the skull it wears on its head, which belonged to its deceased mother, functioning as a helmet. This skull obscures much of Cubone's face, leaving only its triangular, black eyes and a small surrounding area visible. The skull has two rounded horns on top and tooth-like points on the lower sides. Underneath, Cubone possesses a brown snout. This little creature survives by skillfully wielding the bone it carries as a weapon.
Known as the Lonely Pokémon, Cubone tends to isolate itself and avoid social interactions due to the trauma of losing its mother. At night, it often cries in mourning, causing the skull it wears to vibrate and emit a sorrowful sound. On nights with a full moon, these cries are especially intense, as Cubone seemingly recognizes its mother in the moonlight and howls with profound sadness. These cries can attract Mandibuzz, a natural predator. It is believed that Cubone evolves into Marowak once it comes to terms with its mother’s death. Interestingly, while its dreams make it cry, crying strengthens it. Cubone typically inhabits rocky areas like mountains or caves, and it used to live in the Pokémon Tower in Lavender Town where deceased Pokémon were buried and mourned.
