Heracross is a bipedal, beetle-like Pokémon encased in a blue exoskeleton. It features a prominent, forked horn on its forehead that ends in a cross shape for males and a heart shape for females. This horn is flanked by short antennae with spherical tips. Heracross possesses oval, yellow eyes, spiky forearms near the wrists, and single spikes on each thigh. Its hands have two claws, while each foot has one long claw. The wings are hidden under elytra but visible when released from a Poké Ball in 3D games. These claws help Heracross anchor itself to the ground or climb trees, and it uses its horn to toss opponents or rivals for food. Impressively, it can lift objects weighing 100 times its own weight. Using its antennae, it sniffs out food sources. This Pokémon thrives in various forest types, feeding primarily on tree sap.
In the anime, Heracross is seen competing with other Pokémon like Pinsir for sustenance. An episode illustrates Heracross allowing Butterfree to feed on sap after finishing its meal. Additionally, it's shown sucking sap from Grass-type Pokémon such as Bulbasaur. In Alola, Heracross gets along better with Pinsir due to their mutual rivalry with Vikavolt.
Forms
Heracross can Mega Evolve into Mega Heracross. This form is bulkier with thin orange markings around its head, hands, and shoulders, plus a half-circle marking above its eyes. It now sports a longer, slightly upward-curving nose. The wings are absent, replaced by a completely yellow back. The horn has transformed into a large, simple spike with two smaller front-facing spikes. The antennae have elongated with ovoid tips. Mega Heracross’s forearms have thickened and lost their spines.
This Pokémon has an elevated body temperature, so it opens shell-like structures on its arms and torso to release heat. Mega Heracross exhibits extraordinary strength, capable of lifting objects up to 500 times its weight between its horns. However, it experiences muscular soreness upon reverting to its original form.
