Golduck is a blue, bipedal Pokémon that resembles either a duck or a platypus. It has red eyes, a cream-colored beak, a prominent red gem in the center of its forehead, and four spikes on the back of its head. Its hands and feet feature three clawed digits each, connected by cream-colored webbing. This Pokémon's body is hydrodynamically shaped, aiding in swift swimming, and it uses its long tail as a rudder for steering. Golduck is often mistaken for the Japanese mythical creature Kappa due to its humanoid shape, beak, and webbed limbs.
Golduck is an exceptional swimmer, easily outpacing even the most athletic humans thanks to its webbed appendages. It remains unfazed by rough seas and sometimes rescues people from shipwrecks. The gem on its forehead glows when it employs its psychic abilities and occasionally during high-speed swims. Historically, Golduck was overhunted because of the belief that its gem granted supernatural powers. As depicted in manga, Golduck can share knowledge with its Trainer and fellow Pokémon through telepathy. It typically hunts fish in lakes, using its abilities to disable, capture, and bring prey to shore. Folklore suggests that Golduck punishes those who pollute rivers by dragging them underwater.
