Articuno is a large avian Pokémon featuring predominantly sky blue plumage and wings believed to be made of ice. It has a crest on its forehead, composed of three darker blue rhombus-shaped feathers. Its eyes are circular and red, it possesses a short gray beak, and long, thin gray legs. Each foot includes three forward-facing toes and one backward-facing toe. A mass of white, downy feathers adorns its chest, while its streamer-like tail extends beyond its body length and shares the same shade of blue as its crest.
Articuno has the ability to manipulate ice at will. When it flaps its wings, it can chill the surrounding air moisture, causing snow to fall. This Pokémon flies from icy mountain to icy mountain. Legend has it that Articuno appears before travelers lost in icy regions, often aiding them and guiding them to safety. Articuno resides in cold, isolated areas like snowy mountains filled with permafrost. It enjoys treats specially made by Snacksworth, who once encountered and sang with this Pokémon.
Forms
Articuno has a regional variant: Galarian Articuno. In Galar, this form exhibits a unique appearance. The main body is lavender with a black marking covering its chest. Its feet are black with lavender talons. The three feathers of its crest are elongated, fused, and folded backward, matching the purple color of its beak and tail. Its glowing light blue eyes appear mostly closed and are encircled by a black, mask-like facial disc. When utilizing psychic power, the entire mask glows the same color as its eyes, along with the white, feather-like blades of condensed psychic energy at the edges of its wings.
Galarian Articuno uses its psychic power to stay airborne, rarely needing to flap its wings. Instead, the blades on its wings can slice through iron effortlessly. Its eyes can emit beams of psychic energy, immobilizing opponents as if they were frozen solid—hence its resemblance to its Kantonian counterpart. It can also create mirages of itself to deceive opponents and escape. Despite its elegant movements, it has a cold and callous personality. Constantly migrating worldwide, it can be found in the Crown Tundra every few decades, gathering with other birds around the Dyna Tree to eat its fruits.
