Mesprit is a small, gray, fairy-like Pokémon. It has two tails, each adorned with a red jewel. Mesprit's face is partially magenta, featuring four long, drooping appendages and another red gem embedded in its forehead.
Alongside Uxie and Azelf, Mesprit belongs to the lake guardians, a Legendary trio first discovered in the Sinnoh region. Mesprit can leave its body without dying and return at will. According to legends, anyone who touches it will have their emotions completely drained away. Due to its punishing nature towards those who disrespect it, Mesprit was greatly feared; it would throw their emotions into chaos. It is said that Mesprit taught humans how to feel sorrow, pain, and joy.
In the episodes "The Needs of the Three! (DP151)" and "The Battle Finale of Legend! (DP152)," Mesprit demonstrated its ability to teleport itself as well as other Pokémon and humans. Despite being playful, it has a mischievous side. Historically referred to as the "Being of Emotion," Mesprit plays a crucial role in giving humans the capacity to experience happiness and sadness.
Together with the other lake guardians, Mesprit is essential for creating a Red Chain, either through gems extracted from its body or its plume. They are also capable of destroying a Red Chain. Additionally, they possess the power to calm down Dialga or Palkia if either deity becomes enraged, but not both simultaneously. In "Pokémon Legends: Arceus," Mesprit shows the ability to communicate with humans via telepathy.
