Firuka initially emerges as a member of the Odo clan, rescuing Uruki after he falls into a forest when Teg's singing disrupts his plan to attack the palace in Touran. She tends to Uruki's severe injuries and shows a profound interest in him, sparking jealousy in Takiko once she and the other Genbu warriors finally locate Uruki. Firuka and her fellow Odo clan members also save Hagas when he is injured, with Firuka nursing him back to health. Her kindness toward Uruki makes sense when it is revealed that she is King Tegiru's eldest daughter and the princess of Hokkan, making her Uruki's cousin. Due to Tegiru's desire for a male heir, he neglected Firuka, who ran away following her mother's death a year prior and joined the Odo clan. Since then, she has not returned to the palace except to help Takiko and the Genbu warriors rescue Teg. Her connections within the palace enable her to prevent guards from arresting Takiko when they mistake her for a follower of King Temudan. Inside the palace, Firuka discloses to Takiko that her real name is Princess Efinruka Roun and reveals her true reason for returning: to assassinate Tegiru to uncover Teg's whereabouts. When Hagas kills Tegiru, Firuka nearly takes both their lives but is stopped by Hagas, whom she realizes she loves.
