Diglett is a diminutive, brown Pokémon that appears to be constantly buried underground, with only its head visible. Its small size makes it the lightest and shortest Ground-type Pokémon. It has tiny black eyes and a large, round, pink nose. In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, a Diglett mentions having feet, though their exact size and appearance remain unknown. Diglett spends most of its time underground and possesses very thin skin. Exposure to sunlight causes its blood to heat up, leading to weakness.
Diglett resides in tunnels and caves beneath the earth, feeding on tree roots and vegetables. It often inhabits burrows left by Onix. Sometimes, it lives near forests or even inside trees. Diglett frequently digs through the soil at shallow depths, leaving well-tilled earth behind. Some farmers appreciate Diglett for tilling their fields and enriching the soil with its droppings, while others view it as a pest due to its vegetable consumption.
Forms
Diglett has a regional variant known as Alolan Diglett. In Alola, Diglett has evolved three fine gold whiskers on its head from living in iron-rich soil. These whiskers serve as sensors, enabling it to monitor its surroundings without surfacing. However, it still occasionally pokes its head out to observe above ground. The whiskers also convey emotions: standing straight for anger, swinging for happiness, and drooping for sadness. To dig through Alola's volcanic rock, Alolan Diglett is significantly stronger than its non-Alolan counterparts. Despite this strength, they remain very small, tying with Klefki and Meltan as the shortest Steel-type Pokémon.
Though Diglett bears a strong resemblance to Wiglett from the Paldea region, these two Pokémon species are not biologically related, differing in diet and habitat. Their similarity is attributed to coincidental environmental adaptations.
Evolution
Diglett evolves into Dugtrio. Alolan Diglett evolves into Alolan Dugtrio.
