Grimer is a slimy, amorphous Pokémon that originates from polluted streams or seabeds exposed to lunar radiation. It has two large eyes with tiny pupils and a wide mouth featuring a gray tongue. Despite the absence of visible legs, it possesses two arms, each with three digits. Its purple sludge body houses various potent bacteria, making the soil barren wherever it goes. Constantly secreting a bacteria-laden fluid, Grimer's survival depends on these internal germs. Fragments of its body can break off and develop into new Grimers, and combining with another Grimer results in toxic compounds.
Lacking a solid form, Grimer easily slips into tight spaces, especially sewage pipes where it feeds on contaminated wastewater. Its population fluctuates based on waste availability, which constitutes its primary diet. Found in polluted water bodies and urban areas, Grimer faces extinction due to environmental improvements reducing its food source.
Forms
Grimer has a regional variant known as Alolan Grimer. Introduced to Alola to manage excessive waste, Alolan Grimer consumes solid garbage instead of sludge. This dietary change altered its appearance: green body, yellow sludge line under the lip, bright blue tongue, and black crescent shapes behind its eyes. It also features blunt "teeth" made of crystallized toxins, which are dangerous upon contact. Lethal poisons leak out when these crystals fall. Unlike regular Grimer, Alolan Grimer does not emit a foul smell because it stores toxins internally.
About one hundred Alolan Grimers typically live near waste disposal sites in Alola, helping with garbage management. Widely used in waste facilities globally, Alolan Grimer constantly needs to eat trash. In the absence of garbage, it consumes other manufactured items. Additionally, it preys on Trubbish and Garbodor, leading to their decreased numbers in Alola. They also inhabit the Coastal Biome of Blueberry Academy's Terarium, simulating Alola's island ecosystem.
Evolution
Grimer evolves into Muk, while Alolan Grimer evolves into Alolan Muk.
