Apparently there was a prologue chapter, I don't know if I missed it...Anyway that was a really good ending, made me kinda hope for a sequel.

Guess Manji x Rin was not quite possible, so i think that's the fit ending. Though i didn't expect Rin to kill Kagehisa. I thought she will forgive him in the end, but Well, Kagehisa accepted his death with a smile to end things otherwise Rin wouldn't have able to kill him even in his sleep.

Didn't expected to see ninety years time-skip. It was nice to see that old hag Rin and her grand daughter. I wonder if Manji even remember Rin's name. Taking Fuyu didn't ring the bell for him.

and the little finger Fuyu was talking about. I'm not fully sure what it meant, but I think it was Anotsu's last words that Manji said he'll never forget.

That was Kagehisa arm. Remember Habaki cut his finger. I think he asked that guy on the ship to pick-up Kagehisa from the river and burry him and probably later he took his arm for memory/promise or just because he needed it and replaced it with that big arm he had. So Fuyu asked about that finger and he remembered kagehisa name because of that.

he told him that he was used to not fighting at his best (because he was usually beaten up and dismembered).

That's bc Manji sucks at fighting he isn't that skilled on the sword he mostly relied on his immortal body that's what makes him a bad character overall.

I truly wished Kagimura and Anotsu died stabbing each other or at least maimed each other to a point where they couldn't stand anymore. But then Manji had to spoil the fun by helping Anotsu out in the end and that, to me, is what failed the manga. I was expecting Anotsu to be infuriated by that intance but he smiled and thanked Manji — what a coward.

I think Rin did forgive Kagesiha. As she says in her last talk to Hyakurin (chapter 206) :

'There was certainly... a part of me that wavered'

Then she explains her decision to kill him :

'When the word "Child" left that man's mouth.. I knew for certain that I couldn't let him live'

The talk she is reffering to is (chapter 191) :

Kagesiha : ''We'll run and keep running. Wherever we eventually end up, we'll build a town and raise children... We will teach those children the way of the sword. Before long, a threat will appear... this is what I think.'

IMO, we saw her mindset about revenge evolve through the manga, especially with her talks with Kagesiha himself. When Renzo wants to kill Rin, we see how much she thinks revenge is pointless. In the end she decided to kill Kagesiha to avoid the endless cycle of revenge, deaths, and despair she went through to other people in the future.

The plot, artwork, characters, fighting styles, weapons... I think all of them were unique and inspiring for the other samurai series. Let's be honest, even their ways of dying
(Makie, Shira, Anotsu etc.) were original compared to other manga. It wasn't possible to predict the outcome of the battles until the very last moment. I'm quite satisfied with the realistic ending which doesn't force its way just to please the readers with some crappy happy epilogue.

What I found admirable the most is that the characters had depth and sensible purposes and reasons in order to fight with each other, and all of them was distinguishable from each other with their unique appereances. I believe the only truly villain was Shira after all, ahh he was such an original psycopath. He wasn't someone who could be intimidated, compromised or negotiated under no circumstances.

Eventually I think the strongest characters in order would be as follows: Makie, Habaki, Anotsu, Shira, Giichi. (Since it's not possible to analyse Manji's power objectively due to his immortality, I exclude him from the ranking.)

I know this is a really old comment. Maybe you aren't even active anymore,

But with you having coffin princess as a 10 and btooooom as a 9 I don't trust your opinion at all

I don't understand the aversion so many writers have to showing explicit closure between major characters at the end of their stories. It really wouldn't take away from anything at all, and there're plenty of insignificant pages crammed in at the end that could be trimmed down if need be. Too caught up in returning as quickly as possible to a sense of normalcy, all while prattling on about their closing themes, I suppose.

Parts of this manga really dragged but for the most part it was a fun and enjoyable read with some emotional weight behind it. A good tale to be sure, though not an especially great one.

bittersweet I would say... I mean yeah it's kinda good but I hoped at the end at least he becomes a mortal but that didn't happen...

so that's a negetive point from me, overall great story kinda good ending I would say...
