Kenpachi's power up's through the whole manga being explained, although it seems like people don't agree with how it got explained I feel it's a decent way of doing it. Powering up as he finds someone stronger is an interesting way to go about it and leaves scope for Kenpachi to have further power ups in the future which probably will inevitably happen.
I'm interested as to why Unohana was spared when Kenpachi was a child, it's an interesting thing which could be expanded upon or better explained but i'm feeling it's more along trust or caring since Unohana found somebody who has the potential to carry on the name Zaraki and maintain it for a long time.
I like the development on Kenpachi's character, but it came at the cost of destroying the ruthless beast of a character Unohana was made to be over the past couple of chapters. That is what I, at least, don't like about this chapter.
Oh I agree a lot with you on that, I don't like how the ruthlessness of Unohana in the past chapters has been evaporated in this chapter, but then I feel it's sort of ok due to the fact Kenpachi has been developed more and we have known about him and random power ups he gets throughout the manga and Unohana's character has never been explained. She now stands at a point of a maternal person to someone who is worthy of her but it's hard to be worthy of her from what i perceive.
If you think about it she's still a fucking beast though. In order for Kenpachi to get stronger she's essentially almost killing him and healing him back again over and over. Who knows how many times over she's planning to make Kenpachi lose consciousness to regain his old self.
