Anyway what do you mean by that monster? Wasn't the one in the picture Yamamoto? The monster he was talking about was himself, that's what I understood.
I'm worried about the anime too, though I think they'd give it a more appropriate slot because the arc from the beginning till now is bloody and the anime would be a failure if they censored.
well this is how I interpreted it.
The guy in the pic was Yama in bankai but he was facing something so the monster in question would of been the guy he was facing towards which was Bach.
Also it didn't make sense that he would say "then...I won't be coming back" cause just going bankai wasn't going to kill him even if he had a much lower stamina than he did when he was younger.
If himself was that monster then he would of simply told shunsui it's a painting of him in his bankai mode but he said it was a monster hinting of somebody else, that came when ss was a mess...so Bach prob entered the battlefield in the middle of the war when ss was the mess Yama was talking about.
The monster was pretty much the "old" Yamamoto, the one who would have no regards for lives of anyone and do anything for his goal, the one who "left" after the peace and stuff was achieved. And if he ever had to return, the "gentler" yamamoto who has bonds and comrades, would most likely not be back.
Basically whatever was happening in the spirit world back then was bad and then Yamamoto appeared, somehow making it worse, felt responsible to solving the problem, leading to quincy formation of SS
Yamamoto clearly wanted to separate himself form who he was back then. To build a government that is different from the way "Divisions" was run. Different from the way he was.
Its very usual kind of narrative in bushido-code defined characters - Kenshin referred to who he was before his pacifist ways, in a different name and as a different person, for example

So Ichigo is going to beat a guy who beat the old man? Impossibru.
I would absolutely hate for Ichigo to do it, quite honestly. I don't feel like he's strong enough right now to really make any difference. Which means that if Ichigo does show up, Kubo is gonna have to give Ichigo one of his famous random power-ups lol.
are we talking about the same Ichigo who manhandled Aizen? SeriouslY? Because that power level was way above anything Yamaji has shown.
And its only fitting for Ichigo to have to surpass Yamaji's bankai, which, in a way, is quite similar to his own, in quite a few ways.
