This arc setup is kind of dumb to me. I was happy to see ichigo get his powers back but really the reasoning behind it is what gets me. Ok you are indebted to him, but then the 2nd reason because you have a problem with the original substitue? Come on now you cant come up with better plot?

Ginjo was the first Substitute Shinigami!

I feel like this overall plot twist is just half-assed. It could have been presented better IMO.

that's how i feel about this manga lately. I mean at first i rated bleach as an 8 or 9/10 but now i dont think it even deserves a 5.

Edit: As for the choice of shinigami. Well, maybe because Toushiro is one of the more "main" captains. Wouldn't it be stranger to have any other captain there?

i would have been more impressed  if they said that he had a power that would go to waste if they were to just abandon him or something to that effect. there is no need to pamper the protagonist. it is because he is the protagonist that he needs no pampering.
