Not really. Its just a pointless hype.

There's a difference between changing or destroying something that matters to narrative and a hype talk. Inventing a country and destroying it is a hype talk.

We never saw that place, that place never mattered, for all intents and purposes it does not exist within the narrative - just in the lore.

Bosco started and stopped existing the moment it was destroyed.

Its no different than the claim that Nirvana was more dangerous than Dragon/Human war or "army of dragons ending an alternate future". In those cases hype was bigger than an impact, but impact WAS there.

Tartaros was something on  other hand that had both hype and impact - lore-wise they were hyped up books of zeref, while narrative-wise they destroyed council(something that was there since the start of the manga), led to the breaking of aquarius key, inflicted mental damage to Erza by bringing up her memories of her torture, caused Gray's obsession with END, not to mention indirectly leading to deaths of all the dragon slayer parents and destruction of FT's guild building.

.

Completely aggree up to this point but....

In this case, hype was built up and the spriggans have yet to do anything that matters. Everything they did was just random comedic bs(ex: Brandish) or got Erza'd or got dealt with by fodder. We get it, they each of them can match 10 saints, they destroyed a country, they have huge army, blah blah. Lore checks out. Narrative wise? One took a bath, one flew to the moon, one started stripping people. Wow, such stakes...

They should have at least destroyed Magnolia or killed off Blue Pegasus or defeated Erza(yea right, like that would happen) or something. Something that could theoretically stick and raise the stakes to the war. None of that happened. We had two of them be dealt in completely bullshit fashion and third is literally cutting people's clothes off(instead of you know murdering Kagura or killing off those around Kagura and raising the stakes? It IS war)

This is it - the confrontation between two continents, the hyped up dragon king festival, the war with wizards that are above ten wizard saints in power, the war against country that everyone in the continent feared(even tho it was never mentioned before this arc but hey...)...and yet it feels more like anime original filler arc than a thrilling confrontation that will change the face of the world... Between avatar's fodder marching upon that town and this? I frankly see no real difference.

I will aggree with Darklight that this war hasn't begun in earnest. And quite frankly Azeel was stomping Erza if it wasn't for Bisca/Jupiter. His sand world wichi engulfed the whole city was , in part, showing and not telling. I mean we don't even have the full list of the spriggans yet. I do aggree that Brandish and her girlfriend though were handled pretty miserably buuut.. imagine the knight-chick murdering Brandish for turning to FT. Maybe not that much of an impact but I'm half-expecting it.

For an ultimate trump card, Azir's Sand World was more flash than substance to me.  I mean, what exactly did it do besides set up Bradish's allergy attack?  The actual storm itself didn't damage anyone/anything despite the hype of it enveloping the entire town and the excuse of it caused Erza fear since she couldn't see rings hollow when you remember that the last major fight she was in she was unable to see, hear, smell, taste and feel anything but pain and showed no such fear/hesitation.  Also, the guy still proved to be unable to finish or even deal significant damage to Erza when Marin was cancelling her power.

What hapened to Natsu?? My guess is, he ran out of magic power, using igneel's power might have caused him to fall asleep so he can recover his power.

Lol, Aquarius tamed Brandish :D Well I do hope they become good friends with Lucy.

Oh and Happy, you ruined a happy moment :/ Shit, I should be more concerned about Natsu now... :(

- The  most predictable outcome to Brandish story. Yay for face heel turn that feels completely undeserved. Well I guess Brandish was treated like trash the whole arc so oh well.

- Completely and utterly disappointing Layla backstory. What the hell was that? Seriously Mashima? You made us wait 468 chapters for crappy reason of death like that?

- New Aquarius Key just randomly appearing int he world completely and utterly destroys any sort of consequences or emotional weight behind her sacrifice in Tartaros and undoes Lucy's character development. GOD DAMNIT. First Gray's completely disappointing whitewashing in "Avatar" arc, now this. Will every single consequence of tartaros get erased via completely shitty writing?

- Completely troll ending. Natsu's just hungry ain't he? I Fully expect shit like this now. Thanks Mashima.

Annnd the manga rating gets droped one more point for me.

This arc is such a massive disappointing mess so far. Such a contrast with Tartaros arc quality writing. Everything feels forced and completely and utterly random. What the hell happened, Mashima? Even Grand Magic Games did not feel this awful.

In the end I think it's fine. It would have been more surprising if Aquarius never could return. Eternally losing a key is a pretty massive thing for the whole world. Not surprising the spirit king would save that kind of loss only for the punishment of a great crime, not summoning him.

A year is a bit short, but oh well. It's still a long time for Lucy who had to spend that year accepting that she'd never see Aquarius again. All that she went through still happened.Of course personally would have saved the news that there was a new key for near the end of the series just so Lucy could have an excuse to go on her own adventure to find it and we could put off that news as long as possible.

As to Layla, well it kind of seems where they were hinting at for a long time. That she was somehow connected to the dragon slayers in some way. And certainly ended up being just that. Paid a heavy price to pull this off, but one that probably needed to be paid. The need for the dragon slayers in the future was too great.

Aquarius, stop ruining Brandish's image for me please lol.

But of course it had to be a misunderstanding but I'll admit, i did like the connection with Zoldeo (i totally forgot about hm)

I didn´t wanna respond because everyone was writing those walls of text and the chapter was obvious to create some controversy.

1. Aquarius coming back was convenient, but at least Hiro had the dignity to not reunite them permanently out of the blue again, the sacrifice is still diminished because Aquarius is obvious to return to her.

2. It was obvious that Aquarius  key would get restored somehow, because the CSK was summoned in the past as well, but as others mentioned one year is too short of a timeframe for something that was build up as a "sacrifice" 100 years would have been perfect, long enough that it would be unlikely for them to see each other consistently for funs sake.

3. That´s a personal nitpick.

Their relationship was never that deep, it was always a love-hate relationship that was nearly abusive, usually played for laughs and Hiro actually had to squeeze in some tearjerker moments just to make the sacrifice convincing.

Everyone who feels for them, more power to those people.

4. The chapter had so much out of place fanservice Brandish barking like a dog, half naked girls hugging, several assshots from Brandish (I´m sure Hiro couldn´t use a different angle there).

For the people who will defend it, I do not mind fanservice it´s just out of place, we are in a "WAR" right now, where does this all fit? It´s an all out war the tension should be high not the nudeness.

5. *Contains Ravemaster spoilers*  Star memory confirmed to exist in this universe too, for those familiar with the capabilities of Star memory (this will be important because plot device for the endgame of Fairy tail).

Lucy will be the key plot device to every problem Fairy Tail will face in the future.

And Btw, called that shit!

3/5 chapter

MFW, I keep thinking how if FT had no lowpoints(This arc, avatar, GMG, etc, every dumb trolling outcome, etc), it could legit be 8/10 material. The world is interesting, the darker moments are great, the foreshadowing is brilliant, the gray morality moments are great, the big plot twists are great.

But Sadly for every Mavis backstory, there's a Layla "backstory".

For every Tartaros Arc, there's an Avatar "arc", GMG or this mess...

For every brilliant foreshadowing(ex: Oracion Seis, END, etc), there's a "Oh I was an evil dick and awful person to Juvia because Erza asked me to".

For every genuinelly well pulled off moment, there's "Because She's Erza".

For Every awesome fight there's "let's use tomorrow's share of magic!"

And for every dark and genuinely thrilling gamechanger, there's Urtear retconing everything away.

Why Mashima, why? Why can't you stay consistent in quality and make this into a Rave successor we need?

Mashima... He can't even break a fucking key :/

Meh i'm wondering what happened to Natsu, meybe when Igneel SSJ power burned out Natsu's life energy was shorten or something like that

I really hope that state is the beginning of him dragonizing. I can't see how else he could get a power-up strong enough to make him viable in a fight against Zeref/Acnologia/The stronger spriggans.

He will gain infinite magic when Lucy confesses her love for him :^)
