Now she's... this? Literally ever since the Lucy and Brandish plot line initiated, her character is dropping bit by bit. She's slowly losing her original charm. The Spriggan 12 are absolute trash and didn't live up to their name. Natsu is being dumb as per usual. This is a fucking war yet it feels like no one is dying. The atmosphere feels like every single other arc.

I think that's the issue I have with this "war" compared to the Tartaros Arc.  There's a distinct lack of tension and suspense here.  I mean, last chapter Badd shot Beth from Mermaid Heel dead on with a rocket, and no one even entertains the possibility of her or the nameless fodder that were also hit being dead.  Not to mention we've had three Spriggans lose already and not a single one has actually achieved anything this war.

I'll say what I said after they fended off the first wave: When you have a background character shout "What now, Zeref?" and get no repercussions for it I can't help but feel something is wrong.

Three spriggans? ARe you seriously considering Wahl's puppet as a spriggan? The only one who was actually defeated and even that is not fully certain, he might come back, is Ajeel

Brandish took a bath, got knocked out, strangled, turned into Lucy's pet doggy.

Ajeel got teamrocketed by "Because She's Erza"

Wahl's main ability got rekt by fucking Ichiya....

Another spriggan is too busy cutting clothes off people instead of doing anything that actually matters.

Now let me remind you that each of those people are supposed to rival ten wizard saints in power....

Yet, I am sorry but so far they feel more like "filler enemy guild of the week" moments in the anime adaptation than a genuine threat. Especially after how efficient and ruthless Tartaros was.  By this far into Tartaros, we already had people like Jackal blowing up the council and destroying things, etc, laxus down, Mira and Erza kidnapped, Erza tortured, etc.

Magnolia's stills standing, nothing on note has happened, yet brandish already got humiliated and turned into a joke and Lucy already lost her entire plot(should have guessed that when Lucy's "major fight" ended up being a bath and then knocking brandish out with fucking cana), not to mention her character development("let's free the person who can destroy islands and hates my guts because we took a bath!!~ Hi Aquarius!")

Dare I say, this feels no different from Avatar "arc"

Wahl's main ability? That was the puppet's main ability. Look at the freakin cannon he shot at Fairy Tail. You do not count a remote controled puppet gettign destroyed as defeating Wahl when everything he's done since has done WAY MORE DAMAGE

You mean the shot that got trolled by FT fodder members?  That's even worse lol.

There's no point in trying to figure out anything from the Eclipse gate, because Mashima has shown consistently he has had zero idea what to do with any plot elements from the grand magic games arc. Minerva, Jiemma, Gray killing Frosch, the Eclipse gate. Has any of these had some sort of satisfactory explanation or resolution?

Minerva conclusion was okay. Otherwise trainwreck.

Its more like Mashima lost control of the plot after Tartaros.

Even the part where Porlyusica cured her demonization?  I figured that'd be an issue with you.

That's an issue with Avatar arc.

I fully expected Gray to freak out at her(come on - devilslayer magic going wonky and a half demon in presence) or something.

Dam I wanted to know what Aquarius wanted to say. Guess Miss Brandish might be joining Fairy Tail.

wait , if Aquarius knew all along the true history , why she didn't tell anyone ?

Also, I'm sure Hiro was hoping we'd be two distracted by the thought of a bikini-clad woman on all fours acting like a dog to notice, but isn't the implication here that this is how Aquarius treated a...what, ten year old child this way?  No wonder she treated Marin like dogshit.  Also what the fuck is your problem, Aquarius?  With Lucy it kinda made sense since she saw her a a sort of Replacement Scrappy for Layla, but what was her beef with Brandish, who she apparently treated even worse?  I kinda wish we get another Layla flashback so we could see what their relationship was like.

That did seem messed up and awkward even though it was probably supposed to be funny...

Hmm, if they could show that memory, wonder if that means the celestial spirits knew about who the dragon slayers were from the past. I imagine Anna or Layla must've come across them when dealing with this eclipse business. Though I suppose they aren't actually watching all the time.

OMG, so it is Natsu's fault that Lucy's mother died, that is so sad, than again so did Gajeel, so did Wendy, so did Sting and Rogue, in a way it is all their fault. Okay I am sure that is not the way Lucy sees it thankfully.

At first I thought having her key broken mellowed out Aquarius, she so nice to Lucy, this is not the Aquarius, than we saw her talk to Brandish, that is the old Aquarius we know.

It might to convenient that Aquarius resolved this misunderstanding. So if Brandish the same age as Lucy, that mean physically she is 7 years older? So I assume Jude took on Layla's family name when they married, if the bride family is that powerful and important than that happens. And we got to see Anna, that was fast, Hiro moves at a fast pace.

So technically for Natsu and the other dragon slayers sake, Layla died for them. I wonder how Natsu would feel if ever found that out, I bet Zeref would tell him that just to give him more despair.

So that Zolido killed Grami, and because he was sad that Layla died, I thought he didn't care about her and he was just a greedy person, that is what it seemed in the Tenrou Island arc.

Natsu is in trouble, what I said about Natsu and the other dragon slayers being partly responsible for Layla's death that could come into play next chapter for real, because Layla died  Zolido went crazy and killed Grami, so if Hiro wants to keep Brandish an antagonist just a bit longer, perhaps with Natsu dying and in danger, maybe in her logic she will blame Natsu and the dragon slayers for all this, and try to kill Natsu, and try to get Lucy to team up to kill Natsu. I could say Brandish being all "if it wasn't for all those dragon slayers none of this would happen, our mothers would still be alive." If she wants revenge on someone, Zolido, so blame the dragon slayers, we will see.

Anyway great informative chapter.

Wahl  can always just make the cannon again and fire another shot and then the guild would be vaporized. But he's busy fighting in Hargeon right now.

that kind of describes the problem with this arc.

The so called "strongest wizards of the world" COULD be causing actual damage and showing why this is a war, but majority of them just end up fucking around or even worse, barking like dogs(yes this whole trainwreck with brandish makes it incredibly  hard to take this arc seriously)

It would be "meh" if we did not have Tartaros arc where a far less powerful force actually managed to make a lot more impact than a whole continent so far.

Tartaros didn't nuke Bosco off the face of the map.

Dimaria isn't messing up and Wahl has yet to be genuinely threatened by anyone. Then there's the guy Yukino met with who has been killing her guildies left and right apparently. You are jumping to conclusions before this arc has even started in earnest.

Brandish became an uncertainty the moment she started going wobbly lipped over a destroyed stand. Doesn't matter how cool she acted after that, it was her true character at the core.
