The story is a romantic comedy between a student and his teacher. The teacher, of course, looks like a model and has breasts large enough to cause chronic back pain. A very simple premise, but it's quite fun to read even if it contains some absurd situations. Another interesting thing is that it's a manhwa, so despite all the hundreds of manga you can find, it's set in South Korea, and... well, I've learned that there are some different cultural aspects in this country that make the story more original.
The art is good enough. I haven't read much manga, but I don't consider this great or bad.
The characters, both main characters, are very good. It's not normal for me to like both main characters because I'm usually used to hating them, and if we're talking about a male who is a student... The male main character is a student who has his ideas clear. When he sees that he likes the teacher, he tells her, even with all the problems that exist between them, even though she is 6 or 7 years older. He is a half-delinquent, he has very low grades, skips classes, and has "that" past where he used to fight everyone. Not anymore. Just until someone disturbs his friends—if that happens, he will crush whoever he wants, whether it's a boy or a girl. That's very interesting; I'm tired of super-ethical main characters... fuck you all and learn.
The teacher is quite interesting but not something out of the ordinary. Tsundere, gorgeous, sharp, ADULT, etc.
There are more characters, but well, there's not much to say. The friends are nice, the boy especially, and the other teacher is also good. The others are those characters that make you think "and when do they die?" If you finish the manga and don't think Jae-Kyung Park deserves a kick in his face...
So, why only a 7? Why did I want to score it a 9, then an 8, and now a 7?
Because it has THE WORST FUCKING ENDING EVER. Wha! Finally, I said it! This is why I'm here—it pissed me off. I can't imagine what it must be like reading this week by week and finding this ending after everything.
Ok, said that, is it worth reading even with that ending? Yeah, sure, just don't expect a great ending.
Sorry if I've said something weird; English isn't my first or second language.
I personally believe that, out of all the hundreds of mangas I've read, this one ranks as one of the cheesiest. However, I don't think their love is forbidden.
The characters in the story have some unexpected actions that make it thrilling. The story didn't start in an ideal way, but I can guarantee it will make you want to revisit it. I've reread it more times than you could imagine.
NEVER mistake it for an ecchi manga because it is absolutely not.
Enjoy reading!
I think there's just one flaw in it, which is the (unnatural?) way of drawing the female characters...
I hope Mr. Im Dal Young releases it as soon as possible...
<p>
When I initially began reading this, it appeared to be a typical cliché love story where the couple has to overcome numerous obstacles to end up together. However, as I kept reading, each chapter became more engaging, and before I knew it, I was hooked.
To be honest, it kept me guessing right up until the very end. I grew particularly fond of certain characters (Nah Hae-Young and Carrie stand out), and every chapter felt authentic—well, at least until near the ending.
The conclusion felt rushed, but I heard that it might have been due to something happening with the publisher (?), which forced them to wrap it up. This manhwa could have easily been a 10/10 if they had just one additional volume. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed this series overall, and I would definitely recommend giving it a read.
Although I typically lean towards action-oriented anime and manga, UxU captivates me in a unique way. It strikes an ideal balance between serious romantic progression and just enough harem/ecchi elements to provide excellent fan service without detracting from the overall quality of the story. Another aspect that drew me to UxU is its unpredictability and originality compared to many other series in the genre. For instance, the focus on a student-teacher relationship offers a refreshing twist from the usual slice-of-life or school-based harem/romance stories.
In conclusion, whether you're well-versed in the genre or simply looking for something worth trying, UxU is definitely worth your time and attention.
We are introduced to Jin-Ho Myung, an average guy cruising through his high school years. That changes when a new homeroom teacher, Hae-Young Nah, arrives on the scene. Through a series of amusing coincidences, they encounter each other multiple times, sparking interest between them. From there, the harem story unfolds in an exciting way, deviating from the straightforward narratives typical of childish harems set in familiar high schools, with plenty of twists. Another positive aspect is that it doesn't overly focus on finding absurd opportunities to display panties; instead, it addresses the main issues at hand. However, as the chapters progress and many romantic ties remain unresolved, the story drags, with actual progress moving at a snail's pace. There were also some questionable moments throughout its serialization, particularly towards the end.
Just like with some of Dal Young’s other works, the artwork is nearly flawless for this type of manhwa, making it hard to find significant flaws. The environments are well-drawn, but naturally, your attention will be on the characters. While there are plenty of well-endowed, attractive young women, which is what makes this an ecchi romance, the male characters also look appealing—a rarity within the genre. One thing that occasionally annoyed me was the perpetual blushing, which becomes difficult to overlook once noticed.
In any romance, the story and artwork mean nothing without compelling characters to bring it all to life. UxU succeeds with some very intriguing character personalities that don't always follow the usual stereotypes. The male protagonist is a refreshing change from the typical "loser-kuns" or overly "nice guys" found in harems, though Jin-Ho can evoke mixed feelings due to his behavior. In short, Jin-Ho can be a bit of an a-hole. On the other hand, Hae-Young is an attractive and well-portrayed heroine with many appealing traits. Together, they create interesting chemistry, essential for making any couple or potential couple engaging, which is where I believe the title fell short. Not all the female characters had strong chemistry with Jin-Ho, making them feel more like side characters than the main ones they were meant to be.
Overall, UxU is one of my favorite harem titles because it doesn't feel like a typical harem, showcasing a relationship hindered not by indecision but by societal judgment. Yet, at times, it seems the mangaka intentionally impedes real romantic development, with some indecisiveness on the female side. Jin-Ho, while sometimes irritating due to his actions, remains a refreshing change from the norm, and it was enjoyable to see him persevere in his unique way. Unfortunately, the author couldn't maintain the story's quality, as it took a turn for the worse in the final volume, degenerating into a generic Korean soap opera drama. The ending felt hastily put together, turning UxU into one of those titles with immense potential but ultimately faltering near the end. If you enjoy harems or romances, give this one a try, even if the story concludes somewhat off-balance.
Story: 9
This is an excellent harem/ecchi/romance tale. The protagonist ultimately chooses the right partner amidst twisted circumstances that could have easily deterred him. The manga adeptly delves into societal taboos, pacing itself well for the most part while maintaining conciseness. Im Dall Young's intense writing style leaves readers satisfied by the end... mostly. If judged purely on potential, it deserves a 10. This manhwa had immense potential to expand its plot, introduce more complexity, and deepen relationships. However, Young opted for a premature ending, which has its merits but left me feeling something was missing. The rushed conclusion crammed catalysts and closure into just two chapters, contrasting sharply with the rest of the series. Thus, a solid 9/10 for story, with deductions due to the ending and minor plot holes.
Art: 10
Im Dall Young frequently collaborates with Lee Soo Hyun, and I am consistently captivated by his artistic flair. Seen in both the Freezing manga and anime, his work is impeccably proportioned (save for the occasional exaggerated bust, which doesn't bother me). His style beautifully captures women, but it extends beyond character design. Action sequences are expertly framed, and everything about the artwork is stunning.
Characters: 10
Initially, I considered rating this a 9, but upon revisiting the characters independent of the plot, they clearly merit a 10. All main characters are multidimensional, with none falling flat. Each possesses a distinct personality that remains consistent throughout the manhwa, though shifts in affection occur by the end. MinHo's unwavering determination is particularly commendable, driving the narrative forward effectively.
Enjoyment: 10
Despite lacking elements from my favorite genres (fantasy, mecha, magic, supernatural, etc.), this manhwa shines within its realistic setting. Its appeal lies in its grounded approach. Male readers can relate to MinHo's attraction to his attractive teacher, and the success of their relationship enhances enjoyment for such readers. As a male, I cannot speak for female perspectives, but personally, I found this manhwa highly enjoyable.
Overall:
I fluctuated between a 9 and a 10 but ultimately settled on a 10. While not flawless, it comes very close. It's an exceptional manhwa that I wholeheartedly recommend to fans of the genre, though it may not be a masterpiece. If you enjoy romance, ecchi, etc., I urge you to give it a try. Breaking it down: 3 for Art + 2 for Characters + 2 for Story + 3 for Enjoyment = 10 overall.
