After being framed by a close friend, the death row inmate Fu Yucheng was exiled to the Earth wastelands. One day, he picked up a dying boy in the desert—at that time, no one would have thought that this boy would become the frightening White Emperor.

Years later, in the deepest area of the Imperial Palace, the White Emperor, who was known for his indifference and cruelty, woke up every midnight with tears in his eyes, almost unable to breathe from the pain.

That person was no longer there.

His jealousy and s*upidity drove him to death.

Didn’t even leave a dead body.

Thousands of miles away, while living it up in a casino, Fu Yucheng, who had been forced to die, threw some dice, then sneezed: “That damned boy, Bai Mo, is he cursing me again?”

It’s a pity that Fu Yucheng, who was enjoying himself, still didn’t understand a truth comparable to Newton’s three major laws: Escaping death might be good for a while, but if your identity gets exposed you’re done for.

ML just uses various abusive tactics to prevent the MC from leaving him. Typical trash author who thinks the plot is okay because it's BL.

The reviews almost deterred me, but thank goodness I decided to read this! I initially came across it due to the "Black Room Play" list, expecting a "yandere gong imprisoning MC" scenario. While that does happen, it’s far from the abusive and depressing type—it’s more satisfying. The plot is engaging and unique, though you might feel confused and bored at the start (I dropped it after 1-2 chapters but picked it up again, and I’m so glad I did!). Later on, every chapter becomes so interesting that you won’t get bored. Trust me, it’s similar to SVSSS but with an apocalyptic setting, featuring plenty of fights, dangers, and life-and-death situations that will keep your heart racing.

I appreciate the many satisfying misunderstandings. Poor Gong develops trust issues and an abandonment complex because of the MC.

The MC (Shou) - He’s everything I love! He has a self-sacrificing tendency, hated by many, tortured, and betrayed, yet he remains brave and kind. His past is sad and painful (before meeting the Gong), making it a wonder how he can still laugh and joke about life. He reminds me of a mix of Xie Lian, with his carefree and go-with-the-flow attitude and extreme poverty, and Wei Wuxian, with his cunning and sly ways. I don’t understand why people dislike his ambiguous words that lead to misunderstandings—the title itself hints at these misunderstandings (in a satisfying and good way), with the Gong constantly eating vinegar and being jealous. The MC is strong but often finds himself in trouble, needing a lot of help from the Gong at the beginning. He’s smart, witty, funny, and easy-going, and his nonchalant attitude in the face of disaster and death is very refreshing. He’s also oblivious to the Gong’s feelings for a long time, which I enjoy because I love low EQ but high IQ MCs.

The ML (Gong) - Right up my alley. Similar to Luo Binghe from SVSSS, but more humane (he doesn’t hurt the MC) and just as paranoid. At first, he’s like a tsundere, wary wolf cub (picked up by the MC, very cute), then he evolves into a kuudere/yandere gong due to the MC’s continuous lies. He’s definitely a green flag for the MC and a red flag against everyone else. I love his uniqueness because it’s rare nowadays for a Gong to refrain from hurting the MC, even when provoked. Poor baby just wants to save the MC from his tragic experiences and shield him from the cruel world while keeping him all to himself. He treasures the MC and covets him in his mind, willing to kill anyone who has hurt or dares to hurt him. He would even die for the MC. (But we all know the MC beats him to it by faking his death, hahaha.)

First off, this is a really, really good novel containing action, adventure, sci-fi, angst, and of course, romance— all mixed together quite nicely.

    **Characters**

The main character (MC) is smart, funny, manipulative, and ruthless, but he has a heart. He might not know how to tidy his room, but he knows how to fix human civilizations—how to provide them with a better life. He might come across as selfish at times, but it was later revealed that he has always been selfless—ready to die just for everyone to live. Once, he even said, "Kill me" without any hesitation—in an attempt to protect humanity. , he's a complex character worth loving and difficult to hate.

The male lead (ML) is actually a smart but really dumb kid half the time—sometimes, I just want to put him in a sack and beat him up. Initially, he was an experimental subject who underwent tremendous training. After being picked up by the MC and finally having someone to depend on, he became extremely attached to him, to the point where a mere mention of their separation would deeply upset him. After being lied to by the MC numerous times, he developed trust issues and did some really terrible things (which I myself can’t let go of), but in the end, he came to understand everything and repented for every misunderstanding he had.

    **Plot**

This is truly, tremendously good. I actually enjoyed the twists and turns of this novel and had a very fun and exciting experience.

    *Slight Spoiler*

The MC, due to being misunderstood, became a death row prisoner and was labeled a rebel. As the "crown prince" was his former companion, he escaped execution and was exiled to Earth, where he met the ML. Coming to Earth was always part of his plan to regain what he lost—his power. The MC has a surprising identity that I totally didn’t expect, and he needs his power to reclaim what rightfully belongs to him. Later in the novel, a mission and a twist were revealed, leading to a very satisfying climax. So satisfying!

    **Romance**

This novel features my favorite trope of an older MC picking up/saving a little pup and an ML who was saved in his darkest times and became a ferocious wolf. Anyway, the MC is a black-belly and a liar. However, he’s someone who can easily make someone fall in love, albeit unconsciously. He has a high IQ but a pitifully low EQ when it comes to love, being ignorant and dense about the ML’s and his other friends' love for him. This aspect of the novel was nicely integrated into the engaging plot. As the MC mainly focused on his missions, it was the ML’s feelings and thoughts that were used to show this aspect, which was beautifully done.

However, despite the real feelings that developed between the two, the progress of their relationship was not ideal. There were lots of lies, misunderstandings, abandonment, a black room event, and a pseudo-death. They experienced so much and hurt each other deeply.

, this is a book worth reading and re-reading. I strongly recommend it!

I really hope someone picks this up again because I love it so much! The writing is incredibly engaging, and the story is both unique and thrilling. Sci-fi isn't usually my cup of tea, but the action serves as the perfect glue to hold the plot together. I think people are overlooking the fact that this is an apocalyptic, dystopian story with deeply traumatized characters. What we consider normal in a relationship doesn't necessarily apply here. I'm only up to chapter 60 or so, as that's how far the current translation goes, so I don't know if the story takes a turn for the worse after that.

Additionally, people aren't perfect! Even average couples will have what we might see as 'silly' issues. My main criticism is the transition from a fatherly to a romantic relationship. While I don't believe there's any grooming in this particular story, it's still a plot device that feels unnecessary and potentially harmful. That said, my favorite Danmei of all time is "Sha Po Lang," which also features this kind of relationship. It can be done well, but it's definitely overused.

Finally, don't let other reviews deter you. Opinions are just that—opinions—and they shouldn't stop you from giving a story a chance. Many of these writings are truly exceptional.

Sure, here is the rewritten content:

Okay, so this could have been a 4-star. The story really has potential. It’s just that in the middle, there’s some unnecessary romantic drama that keeps repeating over and over...

    **Spoiler**
The male lead (ML) deserves someone better. He was psychologically abused again and again, sigh... At least, in the end, the cycle was broken.

The main character (MC) wasn’t my favorite, and the other characters were just meh. Not really memorable, which is sad because it started off pretty well.

This is a BL with a rich plot and slow romantic development, which makes it feel quite realistic to me. I haven’t read the ending yet, but I have high hopes. So far, five stars.

This is such a well-written novel, very engaging, and it has a 9.9 rating on JJWXC. It’s heavily plot-driven and combines elements of sci-fi action with BL.

I really don’t understand the previous review. Yes, this is a post-apocalyptic BL drama. If you’re looking for "yaoi sweetness and smexy times" (as mentioned in the first review), this isn’t the right novel. However, there’s a significant misrepresentation in that review.

    **Spoiler**
The main character (MC) feels guilty about abandoning the male lead (ML) because he repeatedly promised never to leave him and to stay together. The MC is not a naive or innocent character; he’s quite proactive but has low emotional intelligence. Their relationship is complex, involving emotional dependency that becomes mutually toxic, but they eventually work through it. The MC can be manipulative and cruel at times, which adds layers to the story.

The sexual content is not explicit, and there are instances of dubious consent, but there are also clear moments of explicit consent and declarations of love. The situation is nuanced, and it’s not advisable to skip around just looking for the sex scenes.

Regarding trigger warnings, read the tags and the summary. The MC is described as having a "black belly," the story is dramatic, and it starts with the MC on death row. This is not a sweet, pampering novel, and it’s not for everyone, but it’s also not a tragic torture novel.
