While reading a novel, Fu Erdie thought more than once that if she arrived in an apocalyptic world, she could only wait for death.
The cars could not be driven, roads could not be recognized, they could not even cook food.
There was also physical strength involved…there was no need for her to encounter a zombie because with just a sudden drop of temperature, she could get a cold and fever and die from it.
As a useless person of the new century, she sincerely hoped that the whole world would be prosperous and free of disease and calamity. At the same time, she could just draw at home and earn living expenses while muddling through.
As a result, God played a joke on her.
After a shower of rain, the world changed. There were zombies and dead plants everywhere.
She looked down from a window on the 10th floor and saw the crowd panicking. The cars rammed and blocked the road, and the small noodle shop she often went to was now stained with blood… Everything pulled back Fu Erdie from her fantasy.
The world had truly changed.
Fu Erdie decided to go out to find her relatives, and she would bet on whether she would become a zombie or an alien. She gathered her courage and opened the door, then stepped back and closed it. The zombie neighbors in the corridor were horrible! It is impossible to fight zombies, you can only wait to die in a wretched manner. And any chance, there was a lot of stored food at home that she could eat for a month.
But her ending was probably one of the two choices she had in her mind, to die now or die in a month. And she chose to lay down and continue her everyday normal life. She would just wait to meet the upcoming water and electricity cuts.
On the first day, everything was the same. The next day, everything was the same. The next day after, everything was still the same. The next…
A month later, it was time to pay the utility bill. The internet got disconnected and she did not pay the bill. The rest of the building was pitch black.
But her room was still bright.
The flush toilet could be used as usual. The natural gas could be used for her luxurious bathing. The small kumquats, small peppers, and shallots planted and grown on the balcony even thrived at a rate that did not conform to the laws of nature.
Fu Erdie suddenly found out that she had not mutated, but her own house had mutated?!
The plot is absurd; a seemingly powerful individual randomly attacks her because she had her air conditioner on, despite suspecting his malicious intent. Surprisingly, she survives thanks to an overpowered mutated plant she didn't even know about. Suddenly, her timid and weak nature is conveniently forgotten as she goes on a killing spree outside, displaying no fear or lingering symptoms. Then, encountering a mutated potato plant resembling her other one triggers another bout of nausea – this seems completely arbitrary and disconnected.
The author appears to be making up events without any regard for logic, which ruins the storytelling experience. It's baffling how anyone could find enjoyment in such a nonsensical narrative.
The main character is portrayed as calm, pessimistic, and family-focused. Her unique power acts as a golden ticket, protecting her instinctively and working only when she trusts, making it unassailable. However, the mechanics were initially confusing for her, as she discovered her abilities after meeting her love interest, and she had to work diligently to develop her strength.
While the male lead doesn't necessarily fit the mold of a traditional main character, he serves more as the MC's sidekick or support system. They share a deep bond, affection, and companionship, but the romantic aspect is subtle. The MC maintains a balance between searching for her family and not taking unnecessary risks.
One of the highlights is the portrayal of the plants, which she affectionately refers to as "kindergarten students," adding a lighthearted touch. There were a couple of plot holes, such as the sudden disappearance of the dog and her unease about feeling god-like, but these minor issues didn't detract from the overall enjoyment.
In summary, the story offers a captivating blend of survival and character development, with a touch of humor and a nuanced relationship dynamic. Despite the potential drawbacks, it's worth a solid 5-star rating.
On the other hand, there's Fu Erdie, who stays at home, jobless but pursuing a career as a writer and artist. Our names aren't related to the initials MC and ML, huh? 😅
A word of caution: In an earlier chapter, someone attempted to rape the main character. Don't worry; the way the MC handled the situation was satisfying. Chapter 6 had me shocked and on the edge of my seat – it was intense! Just be patient while reading the early chapters. Although the MC comes across as pessimistic, she's quite strong-willed. Despite being a homebody, she exercises regularly, always taking the stairs instead of the elevator, which contributes to her physical strength. From Chapter 12 to 14, she struggles to survive despite her suicidal thoughts.
Spoiler alert:
There's a theory that the MC's body can control the house, almost like they're one entity. If she were to die, she might somehow resurrect within the house... This is still speculative.
In the story, cucumber and tomato have a playful rivalry. The MC separates them, but they try to reunite and continue their little fights. The MC finds it amusing. 😜
The MC also interacts with plant babies, and they're excited about something called 'nucleus.' For those unfamiliar, she offers to let them sleep in her bed to practice their abilities, but they end up fighting over it. 😂
There's a sweet moment where MC and ML develop feelings for each other without any instant love connections. It's more like a natural connection forming over time. 🤭
During an interview:
When asked for the first impression, MC describes ML as a big dog, while ML sees MC as a cat, wanting to pet her but being mindful of not coming across as inappropriate.
When they venture outside their community, they claim it's just a neighborhood cleanup drive, a community service activity.
Before diving into the novel:
1. The main character's love interest is named Sang Wenhao.
2. The first 17 chapters are intense, followed by a warm and nurturing shift from Chapter 18. The general plot involves fighting, gardening, infrastructure development, plant cultivation, and more battles.
3. The book's title, which means "lying flat" initially refers to giving up hope. However, as the story progresses, the house's mutation and new circumstances inspire the protagonist to fight for survival.
