This was a delightful read. It's been a while since I last read, and my memory is hazy. However, what stands out is that I enjoyed the book enough to finish it. Upon discovering it was written by the same author, I eagerly grabbed a few chapters and found myself completely engrossed. Although the author can be somewhat verbose, I persisted because I connected with the main character (MC).

Here's a summary of the aspects I particularly liked about the novel:

3. **Character Growth:** The MC undergoes a significant transformation as she confronts the truth about her past, learning the value of honesty and personal growth.

4. **ML's Emotional Depth:** The main male lead keeps his pain private, but we see the reasons behind his isolation, which eventually changes, creating a satisfying arc.

5. **Supporting Characters:** The side characters are memorable and contribute to the story, maintaining their relevance throughout.

6. **Emotional Impact:** The portrayal of loss and grief adds depth to the narrative, highlighting the harsh reality of war.

7. **Simple Joys:** The MC finds happiness in small moments, emphasizing the contrast between her old and new life.

Despite these positive points, I deducted points due to a poorly executed political subplot that felt forced and detracted from the story's overall impact. The potential for conflict was squandered on a generic imperial drama, leaving me disappointed with that particular arc. Overall, if not for that aspect, I would have given the book a full 5-star rating.

In summary, this novel was a massive letdown. Initially, the captivating title, intense action scenes, gripping backstory, and likable protagonist set high expectations. However, the plot failed to meet these expectations, unfortunately, due to predictable reasons.

Contrary to what the title suggests, this isn't a tale of revenge, an epic saga, or a groundbreaking story of a woman disguised as a man in a patriarchal society. At its core, it's essentially an average, albeit well-crafted, romance novel, which is why I felt deceived. It wasn't until halfway through that I realized this shift in focus.

The narrative shifts to a blend of past and present, forming a web of missed opportunities and fated encounters between the main characters. The supporting elements, initially intriguing, became mere background for their developing love story. While I understand it's a romance, I couldn't help feeling that the story could have been much more than a superficial coping mechanism.

What I would have truly enjoyed reading was the MC's origin story – the part before her death, the one that hinted at her rise through the ranks, the friendships, political maneuverings, and battles that shaped her character. That would have been a compelling narrative of resilience, adversity, and triumph, akin to Spartacus or Mulan, but without the reliance on a male savior. Instead, we got a protagonist passively waiting for love, which fell short of my expectations.

The lack of ambition in the story left me disappointed. Perhaps, if approached knowing it's primarily a romance, others might have a different opinion. However, as someone who generally dislikes romance novels, I expected more depth, character development, engaging side characters, or intense plot twists. The first part was entertaining, but the latter half lacked substance in these areas.

Additionally, the author's倾向 to have the MC suddenly acquire advanced martial skills seemed unrealistic and detracted from the storytelling. The line between an overpowered character and lazy writing blurred, especially when it wasn't intended for comedic effect.

Ultimately, despite the decent writing, the romance aspect didn't resonate with me. While the book may appeal to fans of love stories, it didn't fulfill my personal preferences. I tried to continue, but there was little left to engage me. So, while it's a decent novel, it's not the one for me.

My initial encounter with Qian Shan Cha Ke was through "The Rebirth of the Malicious Military Empress," which, despite its flaws, provided quite an enjoyable read. Following that, I ventured into "Marriage of the Di Daughter" (translated via DeepL) and "The Rebirth of an Unlucky Concubine." The author has a talent for crafting engaging plots and face-slapping scenes, which piqued my interest in exploring their other works, despite occasional annoyances like recycled plotlines, excessive verbosity, and graphic content.

Being a fan of revenge tales, I decided to give "Rebirth of a Star General" a try after it was translated. Despite my earlier criticisms, my curiosity got the better of me, and I machine-translated the rest with DeepL. To my surprise, this novel stands out from the author's previous shortcomings. There's less sexual assault and gore, the protagonist's character differs significantly from others, and the male lead, while similar in some aspects, isn't overpoweringly so. Although the author's tendency to excessively describe his beauty persists, it's not as prevalent as in "Malicious Empress."

The romance is slow-paced but has a strong foundation, and the MC-ML relationship evolves beautifully. The emphasis shifts from intricate schemes to utilizing combat skills and military strategies, which makes for a fresh approach. Face-slapping scenes remain satisfying. The main character's personality is straightforward and compassionate, unlike her predecessors, although her incredible intelligence raises questions about her past mistakes.

While the author explores different territory in this novel, there are still instances of unnecessary padding and lengthy, uneventful chapters. A significant reduction in length, perhaps by half, would significantly enhance the reading experience, in my opinion. Nevertheless, for fans of the author's previous work or those who appreciate revenge stories, "Rebirth of a Star General" is worth recommending.

In summary, this novel shares the same length issues but offers a less brutal narrative and a focus on military progression, which is a new dimension for the author. The romance develops gradually but not tediously.

The male lead, although calculative and cunning, exhibits a heartfelt sweetness, avoiding the cold-hearted stereotype.

What stands out is the realistic pacing, with a gradual development of relationships, including the romantic aspect. While the pace may seem leisurely at times, especially before the climax, every detail contributes to the overall narrative. The well-developed backstories for most characters ensure readers can comprehend their motivations and the context behind events. However, some characters display astuteness that adds depth to the plot.

The emotional impact of certain character deaths hits hard, as readers form deep connections with these characters. And while the romance unfolds gradually, the occasional flashback moments enhance its charm.

In conclusion, this story is highly recommended, boasting a beautiful narrative, relatable characters, and a poignant emotional journey.

Read through these chapters. I adore this novel just as much as "Malicious Empress," albeit for different reasons. Regarding the content, previous reviewers have hinted at plot points, so I won't delve into that.

The key distinction between "Malicious Empress" and this novel lies in how the male lead uncovers the female lead's past. In "Malicious Empress," SM revealed her past to XJX as a dream, reflecting her clean slate after rebirth. However, in "Star General," her重生发生在 another person's body, preserving her past experiences. Xiao Jue pieced together clues and deduced He Yan's former identity, which I find particularly captivating about this story – the attention to detail, intricate storytelling, and the grand revelation.

While "Malicious Empress" was heartbreaking, "Star General" tugged at my heartstrings. The latter half of the novel left me teary-eyed, as both He Yan and Xiao Jue had more complex backgrounds than Shen Miao and Xie Jing Xing. SM had a loving family, unlike He Yan, and Xiao Jue carried guilt for his parents' death, whereas XJX didn't.

I appreciate He Yan's character in this story; it's well-developed. Throughout the novel, Xiao Jue accuses her of lying, causing me immense emotional pain each time. Initially, Xiao Jue believes she deliberately deceives him, but He Yan genuinely perceives her alter ego as her true self. When Xiao Jue says, "Liar, I fear you've become too immersed in your role, so I must remind you," it dawned on me that He Yan's character has layers. She gradually realizes or accepts that there's a genuine He Yan beneath the facade. Later, she tells Xiao Jue, "Sometimes, it's inevitable to lose oneself when playing another's role for too long," urging him to remember her true identity.

The heart-wrenching aspect is that Xiao Jue misunderstands her intentional lying, only realizing her sincerity later when he sees inconsistencies in her character. The pinnacle of deception, according to him, is when the truth is spoken through a seemingly unintentional lie. What he perceived as deceit was, in reality, the truth.

In the climax, when everyone discovers that General Fei Hong is actually a woman, the shock is palpable. It's not that nobody could have guessed, but rather, she was so convincingly male that it was god-like. It demonstrated her complete disregard for her former self.

My all-time favorite, highly recommended.

I noticed no one mentioned this, so I feel compelled to share – the Yan He and Cheng Xiu couple (also known as Yan Cheng) is truly unforgettable. Even years after reading the novel, I can't accept Yan He's demise, leaving Cheng Xiu widowed and Mu Xia without a father. The final epilogue by Cha Cha focuses on this couple, leaving readers like me with a lingering sadness despite the main couple's happy ending. Whenever I recall this couple, tears well up uncontrollably.

What sets this apart from typical reincarnation or transmigration stories is the protagonist's decision to continue the timeline rather than altering history. Many reviewers have already pointed out this unique approach, but let me explain why I appreciate it:

1. By sticking to the timeline, the narrative maintains a logical flow for the characters' actions and revenge, ensuring that everyone's consequences align with their deeds. All negative outcomes faced by the characters feel earned in their current lives.

2. The emotional depth of the story is heightened as readers witness the consequences of He Yan's actions firsthand. We see her selflessness and naivety, which creates a strong connection with the characters and evokes tender, heart-wrenching moments.

For instance, the interactions between He Yan and Liu Buwang are particularly poignant. It's touching to see how few individuals genuinely care for her in both her lives. The continuity of the timeline allows us to cherish these connections and develop affection for these characters, which wouldn't be possible in a complete rebirth.

Now, why do I adore this novel so much? It's all about the characters:

1. He Yan: She is my absolute favorite character – kind, loyal, and incredibly dear. Despite facing hardships, she prioritizes others and protects those she loves. Her vulnerability adds to her charm, and despite being strong, she has a pure heart. I simply wish her nothing but happiness.

2. Xiao Jue (Huaijin), the male lead, supports and encourages He Yan without overshadowing her. He provides her with the love and security she lacked in her previous life. He's easily one of my favorite MLs.

The novel is filled with emotionally charged moments that tug at your heartstrings. As He Yan's character unfolds and she experiences genuine care, the storytelling is exceptional. The weaving of her past and present lives is seamless, making it a satisfying read. I adore these characters.
