Their love story transcends the conventional "I only want you to be happy"; it's a testament to the strength of their bond, with one stating, "I am happy because I have you. You propel me forward. Being with you has enriched my knowledge, deepened my love, and expanded my life."
Though the supporting characters aren't central, they are far from insignificant. Each plays a crucial, albeit subtle, role, enhancing the narrative like a pinch of salt in a dish – noticeable and vital. Every detail adds depth and richness to the overall story.
There's a minor spoiler here:
Despite this, I must admit feeling slightly disappointed by the lack of resolution regarding a particular antagonist brother. A satisfying confrontation would have been fitting. Additionally, I would have liked to know more about the protagonist's missing sister. However, the story as a whole left me content.
The ending echoes the bittersweet finale of "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," evoking vivid imagery and leaving room for readers to imagine their own continuations. Though the book concludes, the characters' journey lingers, inviting us to ponder what lies ahead.
The supporting characters are hilarious, adding levity to the narrative and capturing the essence of teenage life and the transition to adulthood. While the focus on high school is strong, I would have liked to see a deeper exploration of the protagonists' personal lives.
One notable aspect is the growth of the class camaraderie, evident in the stark contrast between their interactions at the start and the end. As a whole, this is a delightful read, perfect for uplifting moments, with a balanced pacing that feels organic.
However, my one critique is that the transitions between different perspectives and scenes can be disorienting, especially in a multiple-point-of-view novel where readers need to stay attentive to keep track of the narrative flow. Despite this minor issue, the book is a charming choice for anyone seeking a feel-good read.
He Zhao appears lively and extroverted on the surface, yet beneath that exterior lies a fierce, unapproachable demeanor. In contrast, Xie Yu appears cold and distant, hiding a softer side only revealed to those who dare to get close. While He Zhao is talkative and sociable, Xie Yu is unbothered by others, drawing attention with his striking appearance and charisma.
The supporting cast, including Xie Yu's friends from the "Black Water" area, students of Class 2.3, teachers from ErZhong, like Madame Gu and Old He, adds depth and richness to the narrative, giving it a vibrant soul alongside these two central figures. Overall, this is a delightful story worth exploring.
The imagery was so vivid that I could almost see the classroom and the places they frequented in my mind. As the story approached its conclusion, I experienced a sense of nostalgia, yearning to relive those initial chapters once more.
This book was just that good, leaving me at a loss for words.
The coming-of-age ceremony scene was particularly touching and emotional; it would have been wonderful to have experienced something similar in my own life, which unfortunately wasn't the case. The character development of ML, especially his cool and aloof demeanor, combined with his intelligence, was intriguing. If it weren't for the occasional hints about his smarts, it might have been an even more appealing surprise.
The relationship between MC and ML was undeniably sweet, bordering on the yaoi genre despite being labeled as shonen ai. I was eagerly anticipating the moment when MC would officially introduce ML to her godmother and friends as her boyfriend, but alas, it didn't happen. It added an element of mystery to their connection.
The supporting characters and their interactions were fascinating, making the narrative both entertaining and reminiscent of my own high school days. I couldn't help but wonder about Tang Sen's backstory and what led him to MC's school, which would have been a delightful addition.
In conclusion, this book evoked a sense of love and peace, despite its slow start. It was a heartwarming and nostalgic journey that I thoroughly enjoyed.
The characters in this novel feel so genuine, not just the main couple, but also the supporting cast. They're not there just to drive the plot; they become endearing, and I find myself caring about all of them. Although the pace may be slower, it evokes nostalgia for high school days, and I'm eager to finish reading.
After completing it, I'd say this is one of the top modern Danmei novels I've come across. If you enjoy campus romances and appreciate a subtle power dynamic, with the MC affectionately addressing the ML as 'ge,' then this is a great recommendation. The MC is particularly dear to my heart – a cool, silent type who teases but fiercely defends his loved ones. The ML is charming, attractive, and surprisingly intelligent despite his occasional lack of sophistication (which I can relate to). The story may not have an intense climax, but that's part of its charm, making it a delightful and memorable read.
The language is straightforward, and there's a good dose of humor. The characters are likable, with charming interactions尽管我肯定他们的悲惨背景是从韩剧里照搬的(叹气)。配角,也就是他们的同学,也非常逗趣。然而,
Despite entering the novel fully aware it would be a high school romance, I wasn't quite prepared for the level of focus on things like winning inter-class sports competitions and acing the national exams for prestigious universities. There's also a cultural festival where the main characters perform a dance, believing their love will last forever.
While true love might indeed endure in shoujo manga or gay C-novels, I found myself rolling my eyes at their youthful idealism, struggling to suspend disbelief even in this 100+ page tale.
I think you'd enjoy this if you're still in high school, brimming with hope for the future, or perhaps a bit older, as long as you maintain a youthful spirit. However, since I don't fit either category, reading this felt akin to how I imagine my parents would react to High School Musical now. Even as I write this, I can almost hear myself tutting and muttering about "kids these days." So, fellow skeptics, take note.
As the story progresses, the author skillfully weaves a sense of unity and camaraderie among the class, turning even mundane situations into exciting adventures. One memorable scene features an epic game-based battle between their class and another, where even the class' non-gaming star becomes motivated to defend their honor. The amusing team names, particularly those of He Zhao and Xie Yu, add to the comedic goldmine.
If you're in search of laughter, light-heartedness, and a touch of anticipation, this story is an excellent choice!"
