There are already plenty of comments/reviews on this series, but I feel as though I have to talk about it as well. This series is brilliant. Oda created a vivid, beyond-your-imagination world that continues to grow and become more interesting. He has a huge host of characters, and he never forgets any of them. Even though new characters are constantly being added in, they feel natural and interesting.
Yes, it is shounen, but it is the best a shounen manga can get. It focuses on friendship and humor. There are no irritating love triangles, or any of those relationships-just fun times. You grow attached to characters or get angry at them. While most of the villains are clear-cut in their 'evil,' One Piece has already been growing out of that. Dark conspiracies, secrets from the void history, and-many times- the tragic pasts of characters, make this entire series 'rich.' But most of all, One Piece is hilarious. It is the funniest thing I have read. I could go on, but I won't. So just READ IT! (it'll start out slow though) You'll be crying of sorrow, and laughing hysterically from arc to arc.

Initially I avoided reading one piece all together because I saw a few eps of the anime on cartoon network and I didn't like the "cartoonish-ness" of it. The art style seemed more like an american cartoon than an anime. Things being disproportionate (Usopp's nose) and some obsurd things (3 sword style?) made it somewhat childish (especially since in the cartoon network version the guns were often replaced with non-guns).

One piece is silly, the art style is unrealistic, and a bit cartoonish. However, if you can overlook that theres a complex story with lots of action (well drawn action scenes mind you) and when theres not much excitement the sillyness of it makes you laugh.

one piece can be summed up as a "Decent action manga wrapped in a decent gag manga". Most gag manga I've read are empty except for the gags, but one piece's story and action balance it out.

I mean, what can I say. Words can't really describe this manga. Other than saying that this is a masterpiece of a genius, all other comments are understatements.

Look at the rating. More than 50% are 10/10s. And I am not kidding you, this manga, even though already popular, is still underated. Really. I'm also giving it a 10.

The humour is the real selling point though (action too, of course, but shonen is already representative of it, so...). The number of laughs garnered from this is unparalleled. If there is little action, be assured that jokes and puns will surface.

And now, on to the art. Each character is unique, you can tell them apart very easily. Backgrounds are the best I have seen. Each arc has different scenes and yet backgrounds are still vividly drawn.

And the plot. It has not gotten one bit boring for me. If it has for some, then I can tell you that the plot is at its turning point now. People may say it is simplistic, yet it still holds the charm that many other manga do not. At 500+ chapters, it is only at half its full story potential, unlike Naruto and Bleach, where the plot already seems to be on its final journey.

So my final message will be: JUST READ IT!!!

One Piece is the best manga I have ever read. It is funny, exciting, badass, and touching. It's made me laugh and cry countless number of times. If you want to take your mind on an epic adventure, read this manga. Seriously, what other manga features an island in the sky, an underwater island, a bubble island as well as giants, mermaids, zombies, trannies, etc, in addition to pirates and marines? I am so grateful to Eiichiro Oda for creating this wonderful and beautifully written manga. It astounds me how this manga just keeps getting better and better.

this is probably the only manga which i have enjoyed reading every chapter of without ever being bored or skipping, the concept of the manga is nothing new but the characters and the world that author created made this manga the best i have ever read and the most important thing about a manga is how much you enjoy it everything else is secondary

This is the best long running manga / anime.
At first the art was a turn off but you eventually get used to it.
The characters are so lovable and there's no major, unnecessary drama which usually ruins and bores me :S The humor here is great :'D
I'm not sure why people have rated it 1.
This manga is def. a 10/10

One Piece is my favourite manga series and is one of the best mangas I've ever read. Oda-sensei has such a unique look to work, in terms of his art, story, characters and execution of the plot. Each character he crafts with care, and they are extremely distinguishable from each other in terms of their physical appearance and personality. He obviously spent the most time on the Straw Hats crew and created wonderful back stories for each of them. The main thing that drew me into this story was the theme of friendship that has carried throughout the series and with each of the Straw Hats and thier bonds to each other. They're all friends and there's no complications of romance between characters and its all mainly friendship based (with the exception of Sanji but he's special 😛 ). There's amazing fight scenes, creative attack specialities especially in the many devil fruits featured and badass enemies! What an amazing mixture of action, comedy and drama! I love this series!!

I admit in the beginning I wasn't as into it as I am now, but it has a way of sucking you in as it never gets boring and all of the character interactions are funny and significant. This is one series that'll definitely go down as a classic. ^_^

I have read probably every single one of the "big shounen mangas," and this one definitely takes the top. Although the art may not appeal to many people at first, once you get used to it, it's really quite amazing. No two characters look exactly the same and they all have distinct personalities from each other. Unlike other mangas, this manga doesn't have a focus point on romance (thank god, really.) and focuses more on friendship, making this story probably the most unique story out there.

The storyline doesn't get boring either. There's always humor which makes you laugh, and the character interactions are well, nothing short of exceptionally amazing.

I used to avoid One Piece because of it's art, and now that I think about it, I wonder why I was so stupid (seriously, go read it!) his art takes it's own life, and it's so explicitly detailed it's utterly amazing and I can't say enough that One Piece is probably the shining beacon of all shounen manga because I think it's the only reason I haven't given up on it. It's not overrated, for one. In fact, I think it's under-rated. Unlike the other big mangas (Bleach, Naruto, etc. etc.) the plot never gets old, and the 550 something chapters fly by really fast.

There's ton of great scenes and all in all, if you don't read it you are seriously missing out on one of the best pieces of all time.
