A young orphan found himself utterly alone in the world until he met the master of a secret martial art. To become proficient in these extraordinary techniques, he must endure years of rigorous and unusual training under his demanding teacher. But why must he do laundry, cook meals, or play musical instruments to learn martial arts? If he can survive long enough (and if his enormous ego doesn't interfere), he might just wield the invincible lightning knives. Will he make it, or will he be cut down to size?

Ryu-Yeon lost his father to an illness when he was only ten years old. With the skills inherited from his father, he could carve wood into beautifully intricate sculptures. One day, after completing the carvings of his parents, Ryu-Yeon was approached by an elderly man who was impressed by his craftsmanship. The old man saw potential in Ryu-Yeon and asked him if he would like to become his disciple. Having nowhere else to go and wanting to make the most of his life, Ryu-Yeon accepted the old man's offer.

i personnaly love this story and if you read the review of people who don't like it's just about pacing because it's a bit slow, but I find it pretty good. It's one of the only manhwa here who take time to develop side characters

    Plot never goes anywhere.
It's been gone for almost a year but nothing of importance has happened since it returned.
I just wish that the artists are getting paid good because they're the ones carrying. The art is good. The plot is pure dogwater.

Edit: crazy how after a year the story hasn't advanced, she's still suspicious of the same things ... If you havent reached ch 100 I recommend dropping it before you get more invested.

The story starts with the cliche mystery man making the MC his sucesor and only giving him chores. The MC has a tragic background and even though some parts are a bit stretched/repetitive, there were some comedic moments that made up for it and the MC wasn't stockpile .

Everything until ch100 is more or less fine but the author drags stuff way too much and includes/ forgets way too many elements his cooking/cleaning abilities disappear after the first ark, I mean the whole reason he got to be a disciple were his carvings and the are ignored after the first chapter. The worst part is how after the MC trains the academy guys his personality changes from a more or less free spirited and untrusting MC into a typical arrogant Chinese MC, stealing anything without context and constantly having a higher ground by acting ignorant. The ignorance cliche is abused more and more as the story goes and he learns many irrelevant secrets.

The murderer/rapist guy way given lost of screen in the first ark, but it didn't add anything to the story and is one of the best examples of how they drag important stuff and leave it without a conclusion, they just randomly mention him without advancing the plot. Or how the only consistent objective the MC had (finding his friend) is shattered when he destroys her memento and acts ambiguous with her. Currently at ch139 I'll just drop it, since there haven't been any satisfying conclusions and only cliche subplots are added.

I really love the interactions between Ryu-Yeon and his master, he's precocious yet endearing in a way that's really well this. The only thing that hold this back slightly is that several scanlation groups have all at various points in time worked on this, so the translation quality can get inconsistent between translators, but the story is hype enough that I keep coming back for more (there are also official translations out now that are quite good in quality, so if you're reading this for the first time I recommend going that route)

Update: downgraded this series from a 10 to an 7. The first 100 chapters are incredibly well written and poignant, but the next 100 chapters have been dragged out like a bad kdrama. It's a bit puzzling as apparently there's a web novel that this is based on so there's no need to slow down plot progression to a snail's pace. It's not been bad enough to ruin the story, but it has made the series an incredible chore to read when it's been very fun and exciting before.

Every single chapter in a nutshell:

    • "OMG master stop beating me up!"
    • "Haha! Give me your money!"
    • "Where did my disciple run off to this time??"

Repeated ad infinitum. At first it was funny but it's been 68 chapters now and I'm getting bored of seeing the same gags over and over.

Nothing actually happens in this manga. 90% of it is just slice of life stuff like cooking and cleaning. The other 10% is just shady intrigue conversations between shady dudes. It's been 68 chapters and nothing significant has happened.

The only 2 types of relationships in this manga: borderline abusive master/disciple, and the most superficial romance cliches (guy saves girl, girl falls in love with guy). That's it.

Imagine Gosu, except it's just the MC running errands. That's pretty much what this manga is. I'm close to dropping it.
