The plot nicely compliments the romance in this manga. It doesn't get too convoluted, but it also isn't just a waste of time. I really enjoy the main kid's job of photography - it seems to fit him, and it makes the story way more interesting.

I'd recommend trying it.

Of all the series out there that I have come to collect and read, Viewfinder is one of those that is one of a kind and doesn't fit in a specific category. To be honest, when I read the first chapter, I wasn't very sure where the story was going, but as the chapters progressed; it cleared out somewhat. I understand some of the reviewers have agreed and disagreed about Akihito and Asami, the rape and the angst in this series, but that's what makes it so unique. The fact that these two are attracted to each other even through all the issues in their "relationship" may have, they still manage to work it out. Akihito is not a 'stupid uke' as someone has referred, he's a character who has a limit to how much he can cope with, that doesn't make him stupid. Their relationship is complicated sometimes, there are no 'I Love You' words in there, but their actions alone say what they feel. Asami is from the underworld, everything about him says 'danger' and then there is Akihito, a determined photographer waiting to get the right shot. They have a 'love/hate' relationship, like what a relationship should have, with issues and fixes. The well drawn sex scenes and the S&M in it is just a bonus for the readers who are actually into this sorta thing (I know I am). So if you like complicated-angst-love-hate with a tint of dangerous pleasure and allure, then this is what you should be reading 😉

Okay.. i remember trying to read this years ago, and just could not see why so many people liked it since I just couldn't get over the violent beginning + drugged rape. However after re-reading it, and pushing through the difficult start, i ended up liking it ha.. I say it gets good once you get past the first arc. The art is also fantastic, and there's an actual plot. Asami.is.SO.FREAKING.HOT. Like seriously, he OOZES with sexiness and his body.. _ -faints as a happy fangirl.

I finally decided to buy this series as i was giving this yaoi a shot. GOTTA say that after reading this... i love this better than Crimson Spell. I hope to see more from these characters soon. Beautiful plot, beautiful Artwork, and the hot passion scenes that make u want to faint. Love the childish uke that is tinted by the hot seme Asami which he finds somehow intersting because he just can't keep this boy locked up. lol. SO Takaba is amazinh childish but unique in his own
way. MUST GIVE THIS A 10 BEING ONE OF BEST BL OUT THERE!

Hmm... I prefer Crimson Spell but this one is not bad........ esp the smut scenes.

It's just, prepare for the annoying-stupid uke, your typical "oh I'm loud, stupid and hopeless but so-kind, bright and strong-hearted" uke (I can already imagine what kind of voice he'll have if this series were to be made as anime) but so-powerless in bed.
For me it's those kind of series where you dont want the main couple to be together in the end.
Feilong deserves the seme more than him. I prefer mature, elegant uke any day.

When I first discovered "Finder" series i was a bit reticent while reading the first chapter. I'm not into SM stuff (btw, I know lots of people say that they hate it because of the first chapter and I just wanted to say that at first, Yamane-sensei wanted "Viewfinder" to be only an oneshot. But, after gaining popularity she started working more on it and she said that if she knew that her manga will be loved that much, she wouldn't have begun the story in such a cruel manner) and i thought I'll hate it for sure. And after reading chapter 2 I hoped that Akihito is not the type of uke that gets raped by all male characters in the story. And I was glad to notice it wasn't like that. It has a great plot and the graphic is excellent. And the characters are not stupid, and they appear to be very realistic: the main characters don't have only good points or bad points. They are complex and more human than most of the characters of yaoi mangas with the same idea. The Stockholm syndrome is included in a very gently manner, almost undetectable. And it's my first manga of this type where the uke is not an idiot or a damsel in distress. He actually does something to help Asami and even when he is kidnapped by Feilong and forced into having sex with him, Akihito fights in his own way to remain sane (he also thinks of Asami every time Feilong touches him).
It is clear that Asami and Akihito grow to care about each other, even if at the beginning, Akihito was afraid and he hated Asami. He manages to understand that he is different, even if he does things that Akihito does not approve of.
The realistic plot and the way the characters show concern for each other and interact, not to mention the humor now and then and the good sex scenes make this manga one of the best. It's true that Yamane-sensei is indeed a genius of the yaoi genre.

I have to say this that the artwork is what drew me to this series in the first place and I loved it, Now if your a shonen-ai fan and hate hardcore violence amd sex scenes then don't read it! Those who are i would would recommend dispite the first 3 rape scene but you have to admit that after the first time shiba doesn't really try hard to resist either. Btw if u read this and really like it or u don't think there actual love in this kind of series YOU MUST READ “S” by saki aido.
Anyway Takaba a photographer is capture by a hot business man name Asami who is capivated and fallen in love Takaba who he thinks is kid shortly after his escape after trying to get some questions from him for Takaba is also a journalist who is on a mission for his next story in the paper. He also loves his camera and can't seem to live without it.us later he foolishly is capture by Asami and is punish and was pleasure by him. Asami also while during Takaba punishment and pleasure was warned to let him know what his true place in the world is and that Takaba belongs to him. (5 stars for hardcore yaoi fans athough i myself found it a bit destrubing for this scene.)
After that TakaBA with his camera goes on many cases that invole not only danger but unspeakable pleasure that involes the great asami who can't help but love this troublesome, life and death situation intersting kid who Takaba claims he hates. In This popular action pack series that makes yaoi fans wanting more again if ur that type of fan that is.

People complain about the Feilong arc but that only occurs in vol 2 to let readers know of his and Asami's past. Just skip to vol 3 if u don't want to read it.And i tell u to me it just keeps getting better and better.

What capivates me the most of this series is not only the plot but the artwork of the covers that seem to revole around Takaba and Asami. If u think about it Asami seems to the demon that controls Takaba's life but deep down and in the story later with Asami's words to Takaba how the pictures and covers have the meaning and if u own the Artbook you probably notice that as well. It seems that the author was tryihg to tell the reader that Takaba controls Asami and that he is the demon that apoear in Asami's life that he wants to keep lock up instead. That kind of thing is what really gets and amazes me the most out of this story and the will that they are willing to do for each other as their relationship continues to develop in this series.

If you don't like the rape(only 3 but with Takaba not trying hard in after the first one)/hardcore sex scenes or that are into more fanstay seires that hate or dislike hardcore yaoi i don't recommend this series for you.
But if u are Then this series is a MUST READ for u.

I wonder what makes people like this series and goes ooh..ahh.. reading it.
The uke is too stupid, not even naive anymore but downright stupid.. I honestly couldn't respect a man like him. I prefer to be able to respect the person to like the character.
Typical seme/uke in term of physical built and appearances, characterizations, and even the dynamic of their relationship, behaviour and reaction too..like in so many yaoi manga I have read before. I really loath stereotype characters like 'ooh! seme must be like this, awww..uke should be like that..' Yaoi world has been overloaded with such stuff!
Hurt here..comfort there..arrogance here..stupidity there..stupid facade, violence, understanding and stupidly unrealistic acceptance..yeah stuff like that over and over.

Would you really fall in love with some one who violates you, hurts you and rapes you and then even later still hurts you in one way or another? How realistic is that? Maybe if you are stupid and has no self dignity.

In my opinion at first, the chapters don't follow a main history, they are very similar to oneshots (or so I think)., Then, when Fei Long is introduced, the main story begins to develop. Maybe the past of Fei Long is too long (it has many chapters) but I find them interesting.

From this point on the story gets more interesting, we start to see more faces of Asami and the events become deeper in an emotional way 🙂

This yaoi is not apt for those who can’t reed very HARD yaoi (this yaoi started as a S&M oneshot and then the Yamane-sensei decided to continue it LOL).

One thing that I really love about this manga is the characters: Asami is the type of possessive and powerful seme but unlike in other yaoi he's not the type of seme who gets madly in love with the uke and says that he loves him. Asami, at first, wants Takaba for sex (the first chapters are mostly sex blush). Little by little, as the story goes on, we see a development of his feelings but he still doesn’t say "I love you" though, and this is another good thing 🙂

Their love is a very real love (at least, that's the way I see it) because Asami is the bad guy A RELLY BAD GUY. He can kill, he shots to another person without guilt, and things like that. Yamane-sensei has created a bad guy that's really bad, a guy that even after meeting the uke (the person he loves, the person for whom he would die 😀 ) doesn't transform him in a super good guy that has a bad work, HE CONTINUES BEING BAD!

Takaba is prototypical innocent and super good uke. He has no family, he likes helping others, and he's sooo innocent that's stupid 🙂 He's the type of uke that the seme HAS to protect. At first he's raped by Asami (and he gets mad!!! WHOOU really, this shocked me LOL in most yaoi the uke is raped, but so what? we fuck another time and everything is ok LOL LOL) but as the time passes (and they fuck another couple of times 😀 ) we see that MAYBE 😀 he doesn’t hate fucking with him. But still he doesn’t accept him completely. Why? BECAUSE HE KNOWS THAT ASAMI IS A BAD GUY. He knows the things he’s capable of doing, and in a very realistic way, Yamane-sensei has made Takaba faithful to his convictions (in most yaoi the uke would have said something like “I don’t mind the things you do, I don’t mind you being the bad guy, because… because I love you!” LOL I really love both developments but Takaba’s is more refreshing 😀 )

THEN Fei Long, after raping Takaba various times, (and this moments we can see Asami snap, he goes rescue him and things like that) kidnaps him and takes him to China. From this moment the story changes completely and almost everything until the end of the manga occurs in China. Here the manga focuses in Fei-Takaba’s history. Fei Long starts loving Takaba? Or he loves Asami? :D What we now for sure is that Fei Long likes fucking with Takaba LOL and that Takaba, every time that they are at it, thinks of Asami and hopes that’ll rescue him.

AND FINALLY HE DOES!! yaaaay! XDDD Well, of course not everything is that easy so some things get complicated, new character appear, and is not easy for them to see each other again, but at last they do :DDDDD this moment is sooo, soooo, soooo sweeeeet

But this is not all, surprisingly (for mi LOL) the manga goes on, IT’S NOT THE END (at the beginning of scans of the chapter 30 v.5 there was a not that said “Finally, the emotional last chapter!”, because of this I hope everybody understands that I thought IT WAS the last chapter LOL). They take a short vacation ¬¬ and then go back to Tokyo.

With all this spoilers I will say that this yaoi is marvelous, fantastic, incredible, sexy, sad, funny, and so on. That if you like had yaoi and nice art, nice story and super sexy semes grin you must read this.

I just read the first 2 volumes from the bookstore, and thank god I didnt buy it first (yay for open ones). It started really interesting, I liked the whole idea of takaba being a photographer chasing after some underground boss (Asami). The other stories were just as awesome..especially Love Plant, it was pretty cute.

THEN..I get to volume 2 and it's AALLLLLLLLLLLLL ABOUUUUUUUT FEILONG (-_-) I could have snoozed in the middle. And I just kept on reading hoping it'll stop with each page I turn.. but it ended up covering the whole thing! Well, I'm glad they squeezed a bit of Love Plant. What bothered me the most was FeiLong's feelings towards Asami..what are they? Did I misinterpret it somehow? Cause it felt like he was inlove with Asami but now hates him cause he thinks Asami was the one who shot him. Agh, stupid.

Now I'm just waiting for volume 3 to come out..but I'm hearing it's Feilong's dilemma part 2. Please, let it not be. Seriously..I want the Takaba x Asami's story to be focused solely on them.

I've read Viewfinder all to the latest chapter, and I must say, this series is overrated and a bit disturbing.

So. Every other man wants to screw Takaba, and 80% of the time, he seems to be fine with it. I don't think he even realizes that having sex without consent, even if you orgasm from it, is rape until it gets to the third or fourth guy. And then there's Asami being all primitive and possessive and just plain abusive: TAKABA, IS, MINE, DON'T MESS WITH MY POSSESSIONS, RAWR blood ooze.

But what's disturbing, however, isn't how overrated Vf is. Or how Takaba is raped at least 20 times over the course of 36+ chapters. What's disturbing is the fans who think Asami raping Takaba is love, while FeiLong's rape isn't. Or that rape is a sign of passion or love.

There is no difference or variation between rape. Rape is not done out of love, or passion, or even desire. It's negativity and hatred and anger, and that's an understatement. To call rape a form of love at first sight or caring obsession is going too far. I'm fine with rape as a turn on or one of your kinks, and that's all fine and good, but I hate that people try to mistake rape as a form of love. It's not love, even if the one raping you is the hottest bishie alive.

All in all, Viewfinder isn't a bad manga. I mean, the art is pretty, as a redeeming feature for your troubles, but rape =/= love. Get that straight.

but yea the first few chapters are quite too much for some people, but KEEP READING! and u'll get into it 🙂 has GREAT STORIES, not the typical falling in love just like that stories, but its the stories with so many things behind the scenes that make u eager to know whats next.. and to re-read it over and over again lol~~

Akihito is just is just awesome being an uke! I totally love him <3 and Asami is just... the most perfect seme i've ever seen in yaoi mangas :3
