Zoro was the first crew member to join Luffy. Known for his unique sword style called Santoryu, he wields three katanas—one in each hand and one in his mouth. He can also fight with one or two swords. During serious battles, Zoro ties a bandana, usually worn on his arm, around his head.
Though not a samurai, Zoro embodies bushido principles and is often mistaken for one. Unlike Luffy and many other Straw Hat members, Zoro has been known to kill opponents when necessary, though never in cold blood.
Zoro has a stern, serious demeanor but reacts in a goofy, exaggerated manner due to his gruff, impatient nature. On the ship, he spends most of his time training with weights or sleeping. The only regular work he does is hoisting the anchor using his immense strength. He enjoys sake almost as much as Luffy loves meat but never gets drunk because of his high tolerance for alcohol. One notable trait is his poor sense of direction, as he often gets lost even in familiar spaces. Despite this, he is usually the first to detect danger and react to it.
Zoro frequently reminds others of harsh realities, which can shock some crew members, although they usually agree with him. He has stated that he is an atheist and believes only in himself. Though he may come across as arrogant and overconfident, it's because he knows his own strength and abilities. However, he acknowledges his untapped potential and constantly trains to improve. Zoro adheres to a strict code of honor, never falsely boasting about his skills, and sometimes openly admits his weaknesses. He never shies away from a fight or uses underhanded tactics, considering such actions cowardly. Zoro is strong-willed, determined, and highly disciplined.
